    Approach in Selecting Four Constitutional Acupuncture

    1. Objectives Scarcely referred except for a few phrases of the acupuncture of Dongmugong. He stated every disease could be cured through acupunture. In addition, generally there are a certain point(“hyul-穴”) of the body that suits according to the constitutions, and just as there are a theory that “ascend-descend-loosen-tighten(升降緩束)” so as therapy of the symptom has the same. However, he did not indicate the concrete method of the four constitutional acupuncture. He only asked his descendants to study about it. 2. Methods Therefore, author of the thesis tries to describe the theory approach to the seletive method of four constitutional acupunture point based on ꡔDongyi Suse Bowon(東醫壽世保元)ꡕ 3. Results and Conclusions The author of the thesis recommended the methods to apply twelve channels to sasangin's disease and symptoms according to the ascend(升)-descend(降)-loosen(緩)-tighten(束)

    A study on Sik Ryo Chan Yo Based on Sasang Constitutional Medicine(On the Focus Taeyangin Foods)

    1. Objectives This study is purposed to find a dietary treatment of Taeyangin in the Sik Ryo Chan Yo(食療纂要)(1460). 2. Methods It was researched as bibliographic study with Sik Ryo Chan Yo of the oldest Korean book concerned about a dietary treatment and Hyangyakjipseongbang(鄕藥集成方) Euibangyoochui(醫方類聚) etc. 3. Results and Conclusions (1) Hae Dong Moon Hun Chong Rok(海東文獻總錄) misquoted ‘Five Vegetables(五菜)’ written in Sik Ryo Chan Yo as ‘One leaf(一葉)’. (2) The efficacy of persimmon, Mo Gwa, Oh Ga Pi(the root bark of various araliaceous shrubs), Crucian, Ju Du Kang, Watershied plant(Brassenia purpurea) in this book are the same or similar to those of Dongyi Suse Bowon and Dongmu Yugo. But some of them are represented as having different properities in Sasang Constitutional Medicine(SCM) and Sik Ryo Chan Yo. For example, dried persimmon is used for the treatment of deafness, Crucian for asthma and Song Jul(松節) for bruises in Sik Ryo Chan Yo but SCM. (3) This book doesn't have a definite expression about Sasangin, but it contains documents of clinical cases. So it seems that this book would somewhat affect to SCM after ages.

    The study of a Process to Sasang Constutitional pathology about Gyemagakban-tang

    1. Objectives There are two kind of『Dongyi Suse Bowon』-「GaboBon」 and 「ShinchukBon」These books are similar each other, and there are difference from the contents of books. Among them we studied the sentence of Gyemagakban-tang between 「GaboBon」 and 「ShinchukBon」 of『Dongyi Suse Bowon』 2. Methods The study is to compare to「GaboBon」 and 「ShinchukBon」 on the basis of texts of ꡔDongyi Suse Bowonꡕ. 3. Results 1) We can see that Lee Je-Ma was trying to cure Soeumin by the treatment of ascent and grow up Yang(陽) and Ki(氣) as seen in the text of Gyemagakban-tang. 2) We can see that Lee Je-Ma considers sweating as the symptom of Taeumin and evacuating of stools as the symptom fo Soyangin in the text of 「GaboBon」. 3) We can see fever in the text of Gyemagakban-tang is the fundamental of the pathology of Soyangin. 4. Conclusions In addition more bliolographic study, clinical investigation will be needed.

    The study of Using in Combination with Constitutional Medicinesin Sasang Constitutional Medicine.

    1. Objectives The purpose of this study is to analysis that one's constitutional medicine can be used as another's medicine or not. Using the results of this study, it will improve to understand sasang constitutional medicine. 2. Methods In Lee Je-Ma's writings - GaboGubon Dongyi Suse Bowon and ShinChukbon Dongyi Suse Bowon-, I analysis that one's constitutional medicine can be used as another's medicine. 3. Results and conclusions 1) In early stages of Lee Je-Ma's writings, there are several cases that one's constitutional medicines could be used as another's. But as days goes by, there are lesser cases that one's constitutional medicines could be used as another's. 2) In Lee Je-Ma's writings, there are few mixing of medicines with other constitutions. But, that have no fixed standards such as book kind, constitution and others. 3) In Lee Je-Ma's writings, there are some mixing of medicine with other constitutions in cases of imperfections, experiences and modifications. 4) In Lee Je-Ma's writings, there are not permissions mixing of medicine with other constitutions in cases of side effects, obstructions and efficiencies.

    The Study of Data Factors for SCIB(Sasang Constitution Information Bank)

    1 .Objectives In this study, we analysed the up-to-the-present data in the SCIB and the chart of Iksan Wonkwang Oriental Medical Clinic, to develop the system and factors of data for the SCIB(Sasang constitution Information Bank). 2. Methods SCIB data is composed of analyses about the QSCCⅡ(Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution ClassificationⅡ), Cold-hot questionaire, Ban-chi constitution questionnaire, Body composition, Body measurement, 24-hour food intake & Activity examination, MBTI & MMTIC, Informed consent & Blood sampling, and data presented by committee of Sasang constitution diagnosis expert. And the chart data of Iksan Wonkwang Oriental Medical Clinic is composed of analyses about Inspection, Ausculfation and olfaction, Inquiry, Pulse feeling and palpitation, and treatment field. 3. Results and Conclusions Almost data in the SCIB are lack of regular forms because they are based on mainly the QSCCⅡ and additionally other examinations. Conclusionly important matters of the SCIB data are as follows : ① the standard form including 4 whole diagnostic factors ② the standard form including symptoms, pattern identifications, treatment processes and treatment results ③ objectivity and practicality to collect data.

    A study on Constitutional Characteristics of Taeyangin

Objectives I, the author, interviewed Taeyangin patients who were proved by clinical effect and also focused in bibliography to compare with Taeyangin patients case then I found out a several differences. 2. Methods I discoursed with comparing bibliography witch stated Taeyangin characteristics, such as Dongyi Suse Bowon, Hwangje Nekyung, Joongyi Chejilhak, with interviewed 8 Taeyangin patients. 3. Results All of these 8 Taeyangin's men and women had very strong sharp-sighted. In characteristics and mental state, they usually were rather conservative than decisiveness, quick-tempered. In women case, they had average 1.78 children, no sterility, and didn't show a anger or sadness. The most of case ,showing a very sensitive reaction to food, were Nechoksojangbyung(內觸小腸病證). 4. Conclusions These results could be a important reference documents to classify Taeyangin in clinic.

    The Research on the Sasang Constitutional Characteristics of Stroke Inpatients

    1. Objectives The purpose of this research is to find out the Constitutional characters of Stroke inpatients. 2. Methods Stroke inpatients admitted into KyungHee Orinetal Medical Center from January 2000 to April 2004, were divided into 2 group, cerebral infarction 493 inpatients and cerebral hemorrhage 83 inpatients. This research investigated the distribution of Sasasng Constitution, the gender, the age decade, the period of admission, the elapse of the time after onset, the course of admission, the frequency of Sasang Constitutional Herb-medicine, the past history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus, the obesity, the prevalence rate of hypertension and diabetes mellitus, EKG abnormality and hyperlipidemia. 3. Results & Conclusions The Sasang Constitutional distribution of cerebral infarction 493 inpatients was 0.4% of Taeyangin, Soyangin 34.1%, Taeumin 56.4%, Soeumin 9.1%. The Sasang Constitutional distribution of cerebral hemorrhage 83 inpatients was Taeyangin 1.2%, Soyangin 47.9%, Taeumin 43.4%, Soeumin 9.6%. Stroke incidence rate of Taemuin and Soyangin inpatients was high. Sasang Constitution had significant relations with the prevalence of the obesity and hypertension in cerebral infarction inpatients, the prevalence of obesity, diabetes mellitus and ECG abnormality in cerebral hemorrhage inpatients.

    An Evaluation of Significance of Oriental Medicine on Treating Speech Impedimentand Limb Impediment Among the Children with Development Disabilities

Objectives This study was conducted to establish a standard and classify suitability in the treatment of speech impediment and limb impediment among the children with development disabilities using Oriental Medicine treatment on the ground of Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 2. Methods 43 patients with pediatric development disabilities with speech impediment and 10 patients with pediatric development disabilities with limb impediment as the main symptoms had been chosen in this study. Oriental Medicine treatments on the ground of Sasang Constitutional Medicine were rendered and evaluated responses as well as pursuing most proper treatment methods. 3. Results & Conclusions 1)For pediatric development disabilities with speech impediment, Oriental Medicine treatment showed a significant effect on similarity of Autism and Cerebral Palsy, but insignificant effect on innate Autism. 2)For pediatric development disabilities with limb impediment, Bee venom was effective for severe limb impediment and limb asthenia, while as eight principles herbal acupuncture effective for mild limb impediment and spasticity. 3) Sasang Constitutional Medicine for treating speech impediment and limb impediment among the children with development disabilities showed general improvement as a fundamental healing through coordinating inner organ activities.

    The Effects of Chungpyesagan-tang on the Recovery of Liver Function in Rat Injured by CCl4

    1. Objectives The present study was carried out to investigate the effects of Chungpyesagan-tang on the CCl4-induced Liver Damage in Rats. 2. Methods Sprague-Dawley rats were devided into 5 experimental groups : Normal, NS+CCl4(Solid extract of CCl4 injection group after Normal Saline feed), CP+CCl4(Solid extract of CCl4 injection group after Chungpyesagantang feed), CCl4+NS(Normal Saline feed group after CCl4 injection), CCl4+CP(Solid extract of Chungpyesagantang feed group after CCl4 injection). Biochemical assays for serum enzyme activities such as AST, ALT, ALP, BUN, Creatinine, Uric Acid, Total Protein, Albumin, Total Cholesterol, Triglyceride, Glucose, and mRNA Revelation of Cytochrome p450 and activities such as LPO(Lipid Peroxidation), GSH(Glutathione), GST(Glutathione-S-Transferase), Glutathione Reductase, Glutathione Peroxidase, SOD(Superoxide Dismutase), Catalase, Hydroxyproline, and β-Glucuronidase were performed. 3. Results 1) CP+CCl4 showed significantly lower relation of Cytochrome p450 than NS+CCl4. 2) As to LPO․Hydroxyproline, CCl4+CP showed significantly lower activity than CCl4+NS. 3)As to GSH․GST․Glutathione Peroxidase․Catalase, CP+CCl4 showed higher activity than NS+CCl4, CCl4+CP showed significantly higher activity than CCl4+NS. 4) As to Glutathione Reductase․SOD, CCl4+CP showed significantly higher activity than CCl4+NS. 5) As to β-Glucuronidase, CP+CCl4 showed signficantly lower activity than NS+CCl4. 4. Conclusions Chungpyesagantang has the recovering effects on the CCl4-induced Liver Damage.

    A Clinical study on Two Hoarse Patients

    1. Objectives Hoarseness is most common symptoms of URI. Acute laryngitis, chronic laryngitis, vocal nodules, laryngeal cancer can be the cause of hoarseness, but laryngitis is most common cause. This hoarseness is called as "Um-a" in Korean medicine and other disease, "Um-a" can be treated by Sasang constitutional medical diagnosis and treatment. 2. Methods There is two case-reports of the patients who were hoarse and they were treated with Sasang constitutional medicine, Samgyepalmul-tang. 3. Results The patients had shown remarkable clinical effects, when Sasang constitutional medical treatment was practiced. 4. Conclusions Thus we report the healing process and result of this two hoarse patients.

    1. Objectives This Case study is to evaluate the effectivity of Sasang Herbal Therapy in Insomnia Patients. 2. Methods Patients who diagnosed as Soyangin by physical characteristic, posture and symptoms, are evaluated with VAS and morning questionnarie after Hyeongbangjihwang-tang medication. 3. Results After Hyeongbangjihwang-tang medication, Soyangin patients were improved the sleep disturbance, insomnia, and the constitutional disease syndrome also improved. 4. Conclusions

Methods To heal the Soyangin Jungso, we used Indongdeungjikolpi-tang(忍冬藤地骨皮湯). 3. Results Jungso of a Soyangin patient responded well to the treatment with Indongdeungjikolpi-tang. 4. Conclusions This case-study shows an efficient results by using Indongdeungjikolpi-tang in treatment of Soyangin Jungso(Diabetes Mellitus).

    1. Objectives Uterine myoma and Ovary cyst is a common disease in gynecologist. These disease can also be treated by Sasang constitutional medical diagnosis and treatment. 2. Methods In treatment of the patient who has Uterine myoma and Ovary cyst, we had diagnosed her as soyangin by their own characters and prescribed Gamijihwang-tang(加味地黃湯). 3. Results The scale of Uterine myoma and Ovary cyst reduced and the occured syndrome with that disease was diasppeared. 4. Conclusions In conclusion, this paper shows that the treatment and healing process of Uterine myoma and Ovary cyst.

Objectives Chronic pyelonephritis is one of the obstinate disease in current medicine. chronic pyelonephritis can be healed through cooperative treatment of western medicine and Sasang constitutional medicine. 2. Methods This patient who was not treated by western medicine alone was healed when Sasang constitutional medicine was prescripted with modern western medicine 3. Results We can get significal changes in lab results when western medicine and clinical Sasang constitutional medicine was practiced together. 4. Conclusions We suggest that cooperation with western and Sasang constitutional medicine is much effective in treating chronic pyelonephritis and other obstinate diseases.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to give an account of the effects of the Korean herbal medicine therapy which is based on the Sasang constitutional medicine for the patient who has suffered from Soeum-disease(少陰病). 2. Methods The subject is a 73-year old woman who has the symptoms caused by sequella of cerebral infarction and depression mood which are headache, dizziness, ostalgia, chilling, anorexia, general weakness. 3. Results We have diagnosed her as Soeumin(少陰人), and have prescribed Kwankae bujaijung-tang(官桂附子理中湯). 4. Conclusions The consequence is the accompanied headache, dizziness, ostalgia, chilling, anorexia, and general condition has improved.
