We analyzed 45 types of herbal medicines for Soyangin, clinically applied in Dongyisoosebowon. In order to discover the standard of herbal classification for the Sasang constitutions, four concepts of Sasang Medicine were applied. These included 'Sadangron(theory of four groups)', 'Seungganggaehap(ascending-descending and gathering-dispersing)', 'Pyorihanyoul(exterior-interior and hot-cold)', and 'Hyungchiaekmi(fragrance, smell, bodily fluid and taste)'. According to these analyzing methods of herbal properties, we have reached the following conclusions: Herbal medicines for 'Soyangin' are characterized by descending energetics that reinforce the Yin Qi. The 'Exterior cold disease' is treated with herbs that descend the "Exterior Yin" in five ways: by releasing exterior, by resolving dampness, by clearing and transforming heat phlegm, by clearing heat, and by settling and calming the spirit. The 'Interior heat disease' is treated with herbs that raise the "Interior Yang" in three ways: by tonifying kidney Yin, by clearing heat, and by clearing heat and purging.

Purpose A branch of acupuncture is to be tender at the sasang contitutional medicine. So studying HwangJeNaiKyung we find the commencement of sasangin-acupuncture that Dong-Mu was not discovered. 2. Method We select the constitutional acupuncture of HwangJeNaiKyung and analysis that. 3. Result We can find the constitutional acupuncture of HwangJeNaiKyungas follows. The first, Acu-point of each constitution is not mentioned. The second, Acupuncture comparing with HyungJiGoRak of ;HwangJeNaiKyung is effective at mind-treatment. The third, the response of acupuncture supply the commencement that can devide YangIn) and EumIn. The forth, according to the fatness and the thinness it must be different with the depth of acupuncture and the time of acupuncture. The fifth, according to the HanYeulHeuSil of constitution, there can be different the depth of acupuncture, the time of acupuncture and the count of acupuncture. But throuth 『HwangJeNaiKyung we can not find the commencement of the theory of Dong-Mu's SeungGangWanSok

Revised QSCCII is made depend on revised soeum scale, revised taeum scale and revised soyang scale, and used in KyungHee University Medical Center. The purpose of this study is to examine validity of revised QSCCII and to analyse the tendency of respondents of revised QSCCII. For this study, the objects are 57 patients who response to QSCCII and revised QSCCII in Oriental Medicine & Western Medicine Cooperative Health Examination Center KyungHee University Medical Center. a systematic analysis has been made. As a results, we have found that revised QSCCII have a validity. there is agreement of Tendency of the respondent of QSCCII with revised QSCCII. we hope that suitable questionnaire will be developed for the research in the future.

Objective : Stroke is the most frequent cause of death in Korea. Because it remains severe disablities disturbing normal life, it is important to carry out intervention preventing from progression of condition in patients with acute ischemic stroke within therapeutic time window. Thus early western intervention is necessary and beneficial for patients with acute stroke. However its therapeutic efficacy is not known in combination with Sasang Constitutional medical therapy. In this study, we investigated the clinical effect of East(Sasang Constitutional Medicine)-West integrated therapy. Methods : Among 54 patients with acute onset of stroke no later than seven days, 34 patients received East(Sasang Constitutional Medicine)-West integrated therapy and 20 pateints received West medical therapy. We estimated the subjects's status with Sasang Constitutional Symptomatic Scale (SCSS) prior to therapy and at 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks after the starting each therapy. Results : There is no significant difference in SCSS between two group from admission to 1 week. But significant difference was observed after 2 weaks. Conclusion : The results of these investment suggest that East(Sasang Constitutional medicine)-West integrated therapy is more effective in Sasang Constitutional Pathology.

Bandwidth and Pitch Range are very important in the area of distinguish of phone which is one of many areas of phonetics and distinguish the individual way of phone. So if each constitution has a trait in its phone, they are important to judge the constitutions. In this report we try to understand the relativity between constitutions and Formant Bandwidth, Pitch Range and the number of syllables in a minute which are important to distinguish the phone. And we try to make judging the constitutions objective. 1. We analyzed Formant Bandwidth and there are some differences between constitutions but it doesn't have any importance in the statistics. 2. We analyzed Pitch Range and there are some differences between constitutions but it doesn't have any importance in the statistics. 3. We analyzed the number of syllables in a minute and there are some differences between constitutions but it doesn't have any importance in the statistics. As mentioned above there are differences between constitutions in Formant Bandwidth, Pitch Range and the numbers of syllables in a minute, but they don't have any importance in the statistics. However if we increase the number of samples and remove noise, there will be great possibility to find some important meanings.

Purpose : The research is study to classify the clinical symptoms of the diabetes mellitus according of the Sasang constitution. that is used to treat and manage the diabetics. 2. Method : We collected 69 patients with diabetes who were diagnosed Sasang constitution at department of Sasang constitutional Medicine in Dongeui Oriental Hospital during 1 year from August. 2000 to July. 2001. and then we investigated and analyzed the clinical symptoms of the diabetics according of the Sasang constitution 3. Result and conclusion We investigated the clinical symptoms of the diabetes according of the Sasang constitution to find relationship between the symptoms and the Sasang constitutions. The result of it, we found that it is different between the symptoms according of the Sasang constitution in first symptoms of the diabetes mellitus, weight, appetite, urine and drinking water. Therefore we have found that it is possibility to classify the clinical symptoms of the diabetes mellitus patients according of the Sasang constitution.

Purposes : As the population of old people has increased by the improvement of medical techniques, the concern on degenerative diseases has increased gradually. Especially the researches of osteoporosis have been carried out in view of prevention and treatment. But there wasn't any research related with Sasang Constitution. So we investigated the relation between Sasang Constitution and BMD(bone mineral density). Methods : Authors measured BMD and BMI(body mass index) of healthy women. We devided our subjects into Young age group and Old age group, and analyzed the data of Sasang Constitution subgroup. Results : 1. BMD of Taeumin was higher than those of Soyangin and Soeumin in Lumbar spine and Femoral neck in both Young and Old age group. In Old age group, there were significant differences in Taeumin vs Soeumin, and Soyangin vs Soeumin in BMD of Lumbar spine 2. BMI of Taeumin was higher than those of Soyangin and Soeumin in both Young and Old age group. In Young age group, there were significant differences in Taeumin vs Soyangin and Taeumin vs Soeumin. In Old age group, there were significant differences in Taeumin vs Soyangin, Taeumin vs Soeumin and Soyangin vs Soeumin. Conclusion : BMD and BMI of Taeumin was higher than those of Soyangin and Soeumin.

In oriental medicine, food are regarded as important one like medicine. Especially Sasang medicine put emphasis on diet, it regarded food as a important one by taking food according to their own constitution in the point of improving health condition and preventing diseases. In this report, the author try to find out the relationship between food preference and each suitable food according to Sasang constitution by using survey data. The results are like this. 1. In constitutional distribution patterns among 203 person(male : 118 person, female : 85 person) reveal Soyang Group 58person(28.6%), Taeum Group 61(30%) and Soeum Group 84(41.4%). And their were no significant difference in their height in all group according to gender. Compared with the other groups, When compared with the other groups on body weight and BMI, Taeum Group indicate significantly high body weight and BMI(Body Mass Index) in both gender. 2. Taeum Group show significantly high smoking rate. But alcohol drinking rates reveal no significant difference in all groups. 3. In the Survey about food preference according to the constitution, rice, Soju, watermelon show significantly high preference in case of suitable food to each group. But perilla seeds, coffee, ginger tea show insignificant results. 4. In the survey about food preference according to the constitution and sex, welsh onion, crab preserved with soysauce, beer show significantly high preference in case of suitable food to each group. But glutinous rice, cooked barley, water dropwort muchim, lettuce, dog meat, egg, yellow croaker, coffee, ginger tea, and Soju show insignificant results. 5. In the survey about food preference according to the constitution and age, rice, watermelon, onion, garlic, salt and Soju show significantly high preference in case of suitable food to each group. But sugar and perilla seeds show insignificant results. 6. In the survey about food preference according to constitution, sex and age, glutinous rice, soybean milk, banana, crab preserved with soysauce, sea cucumber, sea mustard, Soju, beer, onion, garlic, salt show high preference in case of suitable food to each group. But cooked barley, sugar, water dropwort muchim, dog meat, puffer soup and perilla seeds show insignificant results.

The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of Kwakhyangjeonggisan (KJS) on the anti-allergic action. In the present study, we examined the effect of KJS on type I and type IV allergic reaction. KJS inhibited the systemic anaphylaxis induced by compound 48/80 and platelet activating factor (PAF), and inhibited the passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) induced by anti-dinitrophenyl (DNP)-IgE and DNP-human serum albumin (HSA) in vivo. In addition, KJS dose-dependently inhibited the release of histamine from peritoneal mast cells in rat. Also, KJS inhibited the delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) induced by SRBC and the contact dermatitis induced by dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB). KJS inhibited the proliferation of splenocytes, the subpopulation of B220+ cells and CD4+CD8-(Th) cells in splenocytes and the production of γ-interferon in serum and splenocytes. These findings suggest that KJS prevented the type I allergy by the inhibition of histamine release from mast cells and the type IV allergy by the inhibition of γ-interferon production and B lymphocytes subpopulation. These results indicate that KJS may be useful for the prevention and treatment of type I and type IV allergy related disease.

The material and method of study I divided 4-month-old rats into three groups of 10, which are a contrastive group of having applied Acetone olive oil only, ACD group to have intentionally activated Allergic Contact Dermatitis by DNCB and YST group to give medication of Yangkyuksanhawtang extract. And I observed each group of mice after 24, 48 and 72 hours. 3. The result and conclusion of study The change of cutaneous shape and hypersensitive reaction of immunity was significantly decreased by YST in ACD rats. I consider that YST suppressed hypersensitive reaction of immunity and inflammation in ACD.

1. Object: The primary purpose of this case study is to report that a Tae-Yin-In patients with sweaty scrotum and dysuria was treated with 'Chung sim youn ja tang' and then his symptom decreased 2. Subject: A male obese patient with sweaty scrotum and dysuria that visit Kirin oriental hospital to be treated for obesity 3. Method: The patient was to have a very low calory diet and to exercise for an hour daily and to take a Herb-medicine, 'Chung sim youn ja tang'. Change of his subjective symptom, sweaty scrotum and dysuria, was measured by VAS(Visual Analog Scale) 4. Result: A Tae-Yin-In patients with sweaty scrotum and dysuria was treated with 'Chung sim youn ja tang' and Change of his subjective symptom, sweaty scrotum and dysuria, was measured by VAS(Visual Analog Scale) then his symptom decreased. 5. Conclusion: 'Chung sim youn ja tang' may have an effect on Treatment of sweaty scrotum and dysuria. Further study is needed how to conclud 'disease pattern of constitution' accroding with co-symptom.

Gyolhyungjeung is typical in soyangin and occur when Pyo and Li are all out of balance. The patient was treated with Dojukganggi-tang and showed improvement. This report is to describe the process and contents about the way the patient got the disease and cured.

This case is about 68-year-old woman patient, who suffered from 'fever of unknown origin, abdominal distension and diarrhea'. She was diagnosed as Taeumin and diarrhea as that of 'The Interior Disease of Taeumin'. So she was given Galgeunhaegitang and had gotten better in her symptoms.

Peumonia is the infection of the lungs. Bronchopneumonia is the infection of the bronchus. But their symtoms are simillar. I took care of a patient in bronchopneumonia. And then I reviewed Haemophilus influenzae and Soeumin's cough through west-east medicine books. Cough is divided with the outter disease and the inner disease on the pathology of the Korean Medicine(Sansang Constitutional Medicine). And the outter disease is divided with the outter symptom and the inner symptom. The inner disease is divided too. I wanted to discuss Soeumin's cough is the outter symptom of the outter disease and the inner disease. Finally the outter symptom of the outter disease must be applied with the thrapeutic method of the removal wind-cold and the elevation of YangGi in Soeumin's cough. And the outter symptom of the inner disease must be applied with the thrapeutic method of the heating AbdominalGi and the going down of EumGi in Soeumin's cough.

The irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) is the most common gastrointestinal disorder in clinical practice and is characterized by abdominal pain associated with a chronic disturbance of defecation. It is important to discriminate IBS from organic bowel disease. Based on clinical and epidemiologic studies, specific symptom criteria for IBS have been developed. The subject is a 29 year old man who has abdominal pain, chronic diarrhea, general weakness, dizziness, insomnia and has been diagnosed as irritable bowel syndrome. We classified this as Shaoyangin Mangyin(少陽人 亡陰證) and prescribed Hyeongbangjiwhangtang(荊防地黃湯) in accordance with the principle of pyoeumganggi(表陰降氣). In the result, we had the improvement of his symptoms.

Severe chronic coughing infrequently causes rib fractures and these fractures belong to Stress fracture and these rib fractures are given the term of "cough fractur". Cough fracture usually occurs in one rib and in the middle of the rib between the costochondral junction and the costal angle. The case is a report about a young woman with multiple rib fractures which were caused by severe coughing. The Chest PA and Rib series test were normal but Rib fractures were founded by Bone scan test. Treatment was Herb-medication, rest and restriction of work and symptoms were reduced.

Aconitine has much Heat and Toxicity in its property, so many consideration is needed during its use. And there are many contraindications of its use. In the book of Dongyisusebowon, it has to be used when Soeumin has extreme Cold accompanied by Heat of deficiency type. In this case report, a 84 year-old male patient who had taken drugs containing Aconitine had severe Yin-Deficiency-Midday-Fever(陰虛午熱). And he had been treated with Sukjiwhanggosamtang(熟地黃苦參湯) and Dokwhaljiwhangtang(獨活地黃湯). Four conclusions can be made through this case. 1. Soyangin(少陽人) patients may have many side effects or adverse effects when they take drugs containing Aconitine even at a little volume. 2. Soyangin may have chest discomfort when they are constipated. This patient also complained chest discomfort after stroke and toxicosis of Aconitine. 3. Between Sukjiwhanggosamtang(熟地黃苦參湯) and Dokwhaljiwhangtang(獨活地黃湯), Sukjiwhanghosamtang is more effective for this patient who has been skin psoriasis and lower diabetes(下消) for a long time. 4. Although Sukjiwhanghosamtang does not include any antidote drug of Aconitine, it may be used only when defferenciation of symdrome is proper on Sasang Constituional Medicine.

Abstract Mangeum-disease is important syndrome in soyangin's pathology taking urgent diarrhea. In this case study, we diagnose one patient as mangeum-disease. She had a cold before and took a medical treatment with antibiotics. During the treatment she had a diarrhea, palpitation, arrhythmia and edema. We diagnose it as mangeum-disease. So we dose her with hyungbangjihwangtang and we had a good result-all symptoms are disappeared in two months.
