Abstract 1. Objects of Research This research is purposed to find role and treatment mind of Sasang constitutional medicine in human genome age, through summarizing recognition of human and etiology. treatment on diseases proposed in Sasang constitutional medicine 2. Methods of Research It was researched as bibliologically with Dong-mu's chief medical writings such as ┌Dongyi Soose Bowon(東醫壽世保元)┘, ┌Dongyi Soose Bowon Sasang Chongyun(東醫壽世保元四象草本卷┘. 3. Results and Conclusions 1. The outlook on human of Sasang Constitutional Medicine was completed in the base on Confusianism and it recognized that human is consisted with congenital element based on 'Human nature-shape' and acquired element based on Knowledge-Acting. Dong-mu emphasised acquired element than inborn element. 2. Sasang Constitutional Medicine is thought that we ran overcome inborn limitation of each constitution through moral culture of aposteriori Knowledge-Acting. and that self-correction is methods which is applied to treatment of disease recovering Essential Qi of each constitution with moral culture of personality 3. Sasang Constitutional Medicine is recognizing Essential Qi by main standard that foretell prognosis of disease and emphasize recovery of Essential Qi through self-correction than way of 'Assisting-Good Qi' and 'Removig-Bad Qi' in treatment of disease. 4. Self-correction can be divided into non-herbal self-correction and herbal self-correction. Non-herbal self-correction is to control greed by aposteriori Knowledge-Acting and herbal self-correction is to recover Essential Qi by herb. 5. It is thought that the present constitutional disease is consisted by accumulating life habit nature of a disease of ordinary times, and Sasang Constitutional Medicine that present constitutional disease is treated through administration of life habit nature of a disease of ordinary times in Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 6. Treatment mind to correct oneself into Golden Mean through controlling Knowledge-Acting in Sasang Constitutional Medicine may get into important treatment guide of gene medicine age.

A study on food to help digestion for Taeumin ; lotus, adlay, ginko nut, chest nut

    Kim Jong Dug | 2003, 15(2) | pp.24~37 | number of Cited : 1
    Abstract PDF
Sasang Constitutional Medicine, which argues that physiology, pathology, diagnosis, medical cure depend on individual's constitution, is different from a previous traditional oriental medicine. Recently the idea of fitted medicine, made by concepts based on genome project, is similar to constitution of Sasang Constitutional Medine in that both of them take the individual difference Into consideration. Sasang Constitutional Medicine is able to contribute to explanation of function of genes, because the same food acts differently on individual's constitution in Sasang Constitutional Medicine In 'Dongmu Yugo Yaksungga(동무유고 약성가)' it is said that A lotus, adlay, ginko nut, chest nut open stomach-Qi of Taeumin, help to digest, and give a better appetite. But this is different from the explanations of a previous traditional oriental medicine. All of them help to digest of Taeumin, but a adlay, ginko nut, chest nut distinguishing clearness-unclearness(淸濁) and spouting unclearness(濁)-Qi, has commonness of promoting digestion. But in the early days, a ginko nut is thought to be helpful to digest, the latter days, it is used for Mahwangjungchuntang which cures breast-stomachache(胸腹痛)and asthma(喘氣 ܻ哮喘病); It shows the change of recognition.

A Literature Study on the Construction of Sasang Constitutional Medicine on the basis of Channel-qi theory

    Kim Sung Chul | 2003, 15(2) | pp.38~57 | number of Cited : 0
    Abstract PDF
Objective: The purpose of this study is to discourse upon that the construction of Sasang Constitutional Medicine has a significant property of Oriental Medicine by explaining the disparity of the viscera and bowels of four constitutions through the special quality of ying-qi and wei-qi circulating in human body on the basis of the channel-qi theory of ┌Huangdi Neijing┘ Conclusion: 1. Primordial-qi is the congenital essence inherited from the parents and pectoral-qi, ying-qi and wei-qi is the acquired essence derived from the food and air that human eat and breathe. 2. Ying-qi and wei-qi circulates in the meridian system by the strength and pushing of pectoral-qi under the influence of primordial-qi 3. Ying-qi, by the pushing function of pectoral-qi, determines large lung-small liver and small lung-large liver according to the innate quantity of qi and blood. 4. Wei-qi, by the pushing function of pectoral-qi, determines large spleen-small kidney and small spleen-large kidney according to the innate quantity of qi and blood. 5. The heart in the theory of the meridian system's fetus-nourishing and Sasang Constitutional Medicine is involved in the formation of viscera and bowels as governing human body and seven emotions. 6. It is considered that Taiyang person and Taiyin person have the constitution influenced by ying-qi. 7. It is considered that Shaoyang person and Shaoyin person have the constitution influenced by wei-qi. The inquiry into several literatures on the basis of the channel-qi theory of ┌Huangdi Neijing┘ leads us to the idea that the construction of Sasang Constitotional Medicine is another well-implied representation of the property of the meridian doctrine in the existing Oriental Medicine. And it is considered that the more continual studies of literatures and Sasang Constitutional Medicine Acupuncture are necessary henceforth.

    Abstract PDF
Objectives : To evaluate the properness and effectiveness of the question categories concerning 'total physiognomy', used in Iksan Wonkwang Oriental Medicine. Methods: We statistically analyzed data from those 1335 patients focussing on 'relative discrimination ability' to sasang constructions and 'response ratio'. Patients included in this research are only those who had been well treated in Iksan Wonkwang Oriental Medicine during the Period of three years from 2000 to 2002. The data are obtained through the electronic chart developed by Kim Jong-Yeol, and analyzed using the statistical Package SPSS. Results: The first category for discriminating Taeum type, 'heavy and looking steady', has more discriminating power and effectiveness among women than men, and especially in wemen with an age of 21 or more. The second category for discriminating Soeum type, 'delicate and modest', is more discriminating and effective among men than women, and mostly among men with ages 21-40. The third category for Soyang type, 'fast and brave', is almost equally discriminating and effective to both women and men, especially among women with ages 40 or less and among men with ages 21 or more. Finally, the forth category for discriminating Taeyang type, 'progressive', is neither discriminating nor effective among most the women than men in all age groups. Conclusions: The definition of 'relative discriminating power of constitution' and 'response ratio' are well evaluating the properness and effectiveness of the question categories regarding 'total physiognomy'. The first category is most discriminating and effective among women with ages 20 or less, and the second among 21-40 year old men, the third among women with ages 40 or less and among men with ages 21 or over. The forth category is neither discriminating nor effective.
