A Study on the 『DongMuSunSaSaSangYakSungSangHumGoGa』´s Origin and Meaning

    Park Seong-sik | 2002, 14(2) | pp.1~9 | number of Cited : 0
    Abstract PDF
I think that the study on the ┌DongMuSunSaSaSangYakSungSangHumGoGa┘ of ┌DongMuYooGo┘ is basic material explaining the character of sasang-herb and prescription. Through the study on the ┌DongMuSunSaSaSangYakSungSangHumGoGa┘'s origin and meaning, I can take the result as follows. The first, that is composed of total 237 herbs of 90 spleen-herb (Soeumin-herb), 61 kidney-herb (Soyangin-herb), 67 lung-herb (Taeeumin-herb) and 19 liver-herb (Taeyangin-herb). The second, the origin of that is ┌JeJungSinPyun┘, ┌BangYakHapPyun┘ and ┌EuiHakIpMum┘. And DongMu classified traditional YakSungGa as spleen-herb, kidney-herb, lung-herb and liver-herb which is suitable to Sasangin, not created that. So we can know that the first understanding for DongMu' s herb is focused on the traditional YakSungGa. The third, DongMu's unique terminology of spleen-herb, kidney-herb, lung-herb and liver herb show his sight of symptom, disease and pharmacology, that is focused on small JangBu. The forth, through herb-nature gathered from traditional YakSungGa, that purposed to classfying each constitutional herb. So we can know his idea that the choice of herb is not in general efficacy but in personal constitution. As mentioned abovet, that can refer to an herbal argument of DongMu and ┌DongMuYooGoYakSungGa┘ that make known to be common can refer to an prescriptional argument of DongMu.

    Abstract PDF
This study was performed to examine a clinical application of the QSCC II (Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution Classification II) In this study, the subjects were 218 patients whose constitutions were differentiated at the Wonkwang Kwangju Oriental medical hospital. The results are as follows: 1. QSCC II were given to 218 patients after they were examined by the specialists in the Sasang constitutional medicine and received herbal formulas specific to their constitution. The constitutional analysis made by the specialists were then compared to the results of the questionnaire. The result showed only 51% agreement. 2. We made a frequency analysis of 121 questions and found that 85 questions had low statistical significance (P>0.2). 3. As a result, we have found that there is a limitation in differentiating the constitution by the questionnaire. Thus, in order to raise the statistical significance of the constitutional analysis, we hope that more suitable questionnaire will be developed for the future research.

Genetic Polymorphism of ADPRT Gene 3´UTR Region and Sasang Constitution

    Lee Sookyung , Lee Seong Jin , Song Il Byoung | 2002, 14(2) | pp.90~97 | number of Cited : 1
    Abstract PDF
Sasang Constitutional Medicine is based on the diversity of human being and medically developed the variation of response to diseases and medicines. The diversity is categorized as four groups Taeyangin, Taeumin, Soyangin, Soeumin according to morphology, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology. The phenotypes of Sasang constitutions represent that constitutions may be possessed of the different genetic backgrounds. To clarify the genetic difference among the Sasang constitutions, we performed a genetic analysis with the 3'-UTR polymorphism of ADPRT (rs=8679) as a pooled DNA sequencing method. ADPRT modulates various nuclear proteins by poly(ADP-ribosy)lation and is involved in the regulation of various cellular processes such as differentiation, proliferation, and tumor transformation. This gene is also involved in the recovery of cell from DNA damage and the brain infarction. The allele frequencies of [T/C] polymorphism of ADPRT of Soeumin and Soyangin groups were (T: 0.94/C: 0.06) and that of Taeumin and Taeyangin groups were (T: l.00/C: 0.00). The allele frequency was not showed the difference between constitution groups. This result represented that the [T/C] polymorphism of ADPRT 3' UTR region was not suitable to classify the constitutions. However, this study is the first trial of Sasang classification according to genetic polymorphism and further analysis will be necessarily to classify the genetic difference of Sasang constitution.

    Abstract PDF
A 55-year-old woman who was diagnosed as Diabetic foot was admitted to Dong-so Oriental-medical hospital on April 15th, 2002. Her great toe and secondary were to be tut off, and she was much depressed. We diagnosed her constitution as Taeumin, and classified her symptom as Taeumin-Ban-Chang-Byung and prescribed Yuldahansotang for the purpose of chengganjoyoil. During admission, the ulceration had nearly disappeared and so she could save her pre[ious toes. From this case, even though we could not say that Diabetic foot is equal to Ban-Chang-Byung but could suppose that there was some relationship between one and the other.
