    Method of interpretations of Sasang (constitutional) prescription

    Dong-Mu's philosophy is based on the postulation of "Sa Sim Sin Mul". The attempt to actualize the postulation is seen through the books "Kyuc chigo"and "Dongeuisusebowon". That is to say the physiology, pathology and pharmacology of Sasang based on Dong-Mu's philosoghy all belong to the category of Sa Sim sin Mul. But the interpretations of Sasang prescription have been made as "The recipe for symtoms", it is different from Dong-Mu's view. Appearing of disease can interpretate the strength and weakness o resistance based on the constitution. So, I tried to analogize properties of drugs showed in his writings on the assumption of resistance of the constitution.

    A Study of The Correlativity in EAV(Electroacupuncture According to Voll)measurement valvues, Sasang Constitution Classfication and CVA(Cerebrovascular accident)

    Three groups have participated in this study. 1) The first group consists of 57 patients were who had been treated in the Oriental Medical Hospital at Kyung Hee Medical Center. 2) The second group consists of 37 outpatients who had been treated in the Oriental Medical Hospital at Kyung Hee Medical Center. 3) The third group consists of 76 students of the Oriental Medical School at Kyung Hee University. The following conclusions were made in comparison with EAV measurement values, SaSang Constitution Classfication and CVA. 1. The following conclusions were made in comparison with EAV measurement values and Type(SaSang Constitution Classfication). 1) The analsis of the Correlation in Normal group with EAV measurement values and Type(SaSang Constitution Classfication). 2) The analysis of the correlation in patient group with EAV measurement values showed significant differences in Right meridians(Nerval degeneration vessel, Circulation, Allergy) and in Left meridian(Liver). 3) The analysis of the correlation in Total(Normal+patient)group with EAV measurement values showed significant differences in Right meridians(Large intestine, Nerval degeneration vessel, Circulation, Allergy, Pancreas) and in Left meridians(Lymph vessel, Nerval degeneration vessel, Spleen, liver). 4) The above results showed common-significant differences in Right Allery meridian and in Left Liver meridian. 2. The analysis of the correlation in EAV measurement values and Group (Cerebrovascular accident) showed significant differences in Right meridians(Lymph vessel, Lung, Nerval degeneration vessel, Allergy, Paren & Epith. degeneration vessel, Triple warmer, Heart, Pancreas, Stomach, Fibroid degeneration vessel, Skin, Fatty degeneration vessel, Heart, Stomach, Fibroid degeneration vessel, Skin, Fatty degeneration vessel, Bile duct, Kidney). 3. The analysis of the correlation in EAV measurement values and Para(GROUPS according to PARALYSIS)showed significant differences in Left Stomatch meridian. The analysis of the correlation in EAV measurement values and Para(GROUPS according to PARALYSIS) about the differance of right measurement values and left measurement values showed significant differences in Nerval degeneration vessel, Stomatch, Gall bladder & Bile duct, Kidney and Urinary Bladder meridians. 4. The analysis of the correlation in EAV measurement values and Compl(GROUPS according to COMPLICATION with CVA)showed significant differences in Right meridians(Lymph vessel, Articular degeneration vessel, Fatty degeneration vessel) and in Left meridians(Lung, Stomatch, Fatty degeneration vessel). 5. The analysis of the correlation in Type and MORPHOROGICAL DIAGRAMING (HTOUPS according to MORPHOROGY) showed significant differences in Cranium region, Chest region, Stomatch region and Umbilicum region. 6. The analysis of the correlation in BAZ measurement values and Group(Cerebral Vascular Attack)showed significant differences, the analysis on the correlation of BAZ measurement values and Type(SaSang Constitution Classfication) didn't show any significant differences. 7. In comparison with Actual measurement vales and Voll's measurement values, BAZ measurement values agree with Voll's measurement values but CMP measurement values lower than the Voll's measurement values. Later We have to research further about classifications of race, age, sex etc. The EAV measurement values have Group(Cerebrovascular accident) more correlative than Type(SaSang Constitution Classfication). The EAV may well be that it will be used as an accessory method in SaSang Constitution Classfication and as a diagnostic method in medicine too.

    The Study on The Validity of "Questionnaire of Sasang Constitution Classification(I)"

    This study was conducted for the purpose of finding out an objective classification method for Sasang Constitutional medicine, which divides people into 4 groups of constitution and presents comprehensively physiology, pathology, diagnosis, therapy and recuperation regarding each constitution. Questionnaire of Sasang Constitution Classification(I) was administered to 328 inpatients at Kyung Hee Oriental Medicine Hospital. Data was collected during 10 months from June 1994 to Mar. 11, 1995. For the purposes of this study, the collected data was analyzed by crosstabs, variation analysis, and discrimination analysis. The analyzing program was SPSS PC+V4.0. For the purposes of this study, the collected data was analyzed by crosstabs, cariation analysis, and discrimination analysis. The analyzing program was SPSS PC+V4.0. The results were as follows : 1. There was significant differences of each group scales through variation analysis. The questions of each group had Sasang constitutional diagnostic discrimination abilities 2. The diagnostic discrimination abilities(Hit-ratio=56.10%) of the Questionnaire for Sasang Constitution Classification(I) were found to have over 20% improvement than the propotional chance criteria(33.3%), Especially, Hit-ratio for Soum-In(63%) was higher than that of SoYang-In(55%) and $Ta{\breve{e}}um$-In(56.3%). 3. Through discrimination analysis on good questions of each group, the diagnostic discrimination abilities of the Questionnaire for Sasang Constitution Classification(I) was 57.93%. 4. This would be on the ground that the Questionnaire for Sasang Constitution Classification(I) could be used as a tool for Sasang constitution classification.

    A study on Intractable disease in the sight of Lee Je Ma

    Lee Je Ma (1837~1900) wrote the DongEuSuSeBoWon in 1894. Constitutional Medicine what is called Sasang Medicine has originated from him. In this book he refers to mild, serious, intractable, incurable and fatal disease. In the sight of his Medical theory each state of disease deserves to be researched. 1. In the case of Soumin exhaustion of Yang, Taeyang-Kwolum, noxious Yin, Yang is kept in the exterior by excessive Yin in the interior, middle diabetes and swelling belong to intractable disease and solid mass in the right epigastric zone belongs to fatal disease. 2. In the case of Soyangin exhaustion of Yin, lower diabetes, afternoon fever due to deficiency of Yin, spitting blood and swelling belong to intractable disease and distention of abdomen with gas or fluid belongs to fatal disease. 3. In the case of Taeumin syncope due to chills, dryness-heat, diabetes, pain of chest and abdomen and swelling belong to intractable disease and apoplexy with dosed eyes belongs to fatal disease. 4. In the case of Taeyangin vertebral disease makes flaccidity of lower limbs and dysphagia with vomiting of frothy fluid belongs to fatal disease.

    Influence of Taeumin and Soumin Prescriptions on the Activity of Autonomic Nervous System in Rats Received Stress

    In order to investigate the influence of four Sasang prescriptions, Soumin Palmulgunja-tang (SPG), Soumin Sipyimigwanjung-tang (SSK), Taeumin Chowisungchung-tang (TCS), and Taeumin Chongpyesagan-tang(TCP), on the activity of the autonomic nervous system in the rats exposed to noise and vibration stress, the contents of catecholamines in the urine, body temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, and stomach mucosa change were checked in this experiment. The results obtained were as follows; 1. On the 7th and 12th days from the beginning, the experimental indexes of the controled group were increased more than those of the normal group, and it meant that the noise and vibration stress induced an autonomic nervous system disorder in rats. 2. The urine-epinephrine contents in all experimental groups were decreased more than in the controled group, and in the Tcs and the Tcp groups those were significantly decreased on the 7th and 12th days. 3. The urine-norepinephrine contents in the SPK, TCS, and the TCP groups were significantly decreased on the 7th day, and in the TCS and the SPG groupsthose were significantly decredsed on the 12th day. 4. The urine-dopamine contents in the TCS group were significantlly decreased on the 12th day. 5. The body temperaature was decreased significantly in the SPG and the SSK groups on the 7th day. 6. The heart rate was significantly decreased in the SPG group on the 7th day, and it was decreased significantly in the SPG and the SSK groups on the 12th day. 7. The blood pressure was decreased in ghe SPG group significantly on the 7th day. 8. The stomach mucosa remarkably recovered from gastric ulcers in the SPG group and significantly recorvered in the other groups on the 7th day. From the above findings, th could be assumed that Taeumin and Soumin prescriptions had some significant influence on the control of the autonomic nervous system in the rats that recieved stress.

    An Experimental Study on the Anti-stress Effect by Taeumin chongsimyonjat´ang

    In order to, study the anti-stress effect of Taeumin Chowisungchung-tang, several measures of stress, including catecholmine changes, body weight changes, and gastric ulcers were used.the following result were observed: 1. Plasma epinephrine contents of stress by food in rats, in the controlled group were 219.3±18.4pg/ml, but in the experimental group the value was decreased to 169.0±16.6pg/ml. 2. Plasma norepinephrine content of stress by food in rats in the controlled group was 303.0±18.9pg/ml but in the experimental group the value was decreased to 243.6±17.6pg/ml. 3. Plasma dopamine contents of stress by food in rats in the controlled group was 16.9±1.9pg/ml but in the experimental group the value was derceased to 12.8±1.5pg/ml, but it was nonsignificant. 4. Effects of body weight of stress by food in the Shay rats in controlled group was 175.9±3.0g, but in the experimental grou the value was increased to 187.7±4.8g. 5. Gastric ulcers of stress by food in Shay Rats, in the experimental group, the glade was decreased more than in the control group. 6. It is considered that the anti-stress effect of Taeumin Chongsimyonjat' depends on its concentration rate. Based on the results above, it may be concluded that Taeumin chongsimyonjat' aug is effective to prevent the harmful effects of stress.

    Extraction of the Biological Diagnostic Parameters for Physical Constitutional Identificaion Using Thermography

    Skin temperatures were tested under the same conditions by using the thermography in order to extract the biological characteristics of the physical constitutional types in according to the Lee's 4 type physical constitutional theory. The subjects of this experiment were 14 ; 5 Macro-Negative subjects, 5 Micro-Negative subjects, 3 Micro-Positive subjects and 1 Macro-Positive subject. All subjects were stimulated with 2.5Hz 30Vpeak-peak pulses for 2 minutes. As the results, in normal prestimulation state the skin temperatures of the trunk in Micro-Positive and Macro-Positive subjects were higher than those of Macro-Negative and Micro-Negative subjects. In Macro-Negative subjects the reflected skin temperature of lever was the highest in the anterior trunk. In Micro-Negative subjects the reflected skin temperature of kidney was the highest in the trunk. In Micro-Positive subjects the reflected skin temperature of stomach was the highest in the trunk.In Macro-Positive subject the reflected skin temperature of lung was the highest in the trunk. In transient poststimulation state, heart rate was decreased in 7 cases among of 10 Macro-Negative ana Micro-Negative subjects, but it was increased in 3 cases among of 4 Micro-Positive and Macro-Positive subjects. And the hand temerature was increased in 8 cases among of 10 Macro-Negative and Micro-Negative subjects, but it was decreased in 3 cases among of 4 Micro-Positive and Macro-Positive subjects.
