This study performs an analysis of the aspect of translation of <a first-person expression> and <a second-person expression> in the novel. It focuses on the Linguistic Acts of a Teacher in Botchan. Examples of translation for <a first-person expression> were as follows: ‘Ore’ ‘Boku’ ‘Watashi’ used role language were translated into ‘Na’ ‘Jeo’ according to the relationship between the speaker and the listener. ‘Jibun’ was translated into ‘Na’ ‘Jeo’ ‘Uri’ ‘Jagi’. Examples of translation for <a second-person expression> were as follows: ‘Anata’ was translated into ‘SeonSaengNim (teacher)> JaNe’. ‘Kimi’ was translated into ‘JaNe> SeonSaengNim (teacher)’. ‘Kisama’ was translated into ‘Neo, NaeNom’. ‘Family name+君’ was translated into ‘SeonSaengNim (teacher)’. ‘Family name+さん’ was translated into ‘SeonSaengNim (teacher)’. ‘Last name’ was translated into ‘Last name’. However, there were different expressions (title affixed to people's names) depending on the relationship between subordinates and superiors like ‘Last name+HalMum (an old woman)’ ‘Last name+Chan’. Second-person expressions tended to be translated using occupational names.
