    이호옥 | 2013, 31() | pp.5~34 | number of Cited : 0
    As notable socialist countries and under the same system, China and North Korea have experienced many similar stages in their development of socialist system, owing to their regional particularity and commonality of thought background. Among these stages, collective agriculture is regarded as an enormous social change which focuses on rural areas because of its symbolic role in the process of Socialist Transformation in these two countries. While the collective agriculture appeared against level of productivity at that time and carried out the radicalism development ahead of that time, and ended in failure, it has approved the astray direction, policy and rout that were carried out in social practice. However, the social revolutions labeled like“collective agriculture" are prone to be currently forgotten by people and ignored gradually in the development of times. In fact, collective agriculture is of great significance in bettering peasants’ lifestyle and then help promoting great revolutions politically, economically and culturally in both countries. Specifically in the political level, collective agriculture is a necessary and unavoidable stage to realize the communism. In this essay, the author explores the differences and reasons about the collective agriculture implemented in the two countries through making a comparison of characters between the New Spring of Shixiyi written by Qian Shifeng and Shinning-sun Sky by Haoran. Personally, I reckon that this sort of comparative study is not only concerns the cultural research in the two countries, but also plays a positive role in social research at the same time. The novels featured by collective agriculture contain people’s senses under certain historical situations and, moreover, reflect the people’s inner world during enormous historical changes.

    Introductory High School English Writing Class for NEAT Preparation

    Hyung-sim Choi | SEUNG MI CHEON | 2013, 31() | pp.57~84 | number of Cited : 1
    Abstract PDF
    This study aims to present an analysis of the English writing class taught to Korean high school students with low proficiency and address its educational implications. Even though the NEAT (National English Ability Test) has been introduced to integrate the 4 English skills - reading, writing, listening, and speaking - within English classes, there have been several barriers preventing this realization in Korean high schools. In general, Korean English teachers have expressed the burden of both creating practical content for unfamiliar speaking and writing classes, and providing evaluation that guarantees objectivity and reliability. Therefore, this study introduces a writing class model centered on task-based activities and standardized evaluations patterned after Internet-based testing. Authentic language use requires writing skills with an understanding of discourse structure. However, current writing instruction routinely has centered around sentence-level composition. To rectify this, the inclusion of teaching and testing discourse-based writing will be presented. In conclusion, several advancements will be introduced to improve writing classes in Korean high schools.

    Research on the Sacredness in Ritual-for-Rain Folktale

    Seong Mi Rho | 2013, 31() | pp.85~106 | number of Cited : 2
    This research pays attention to the antagonistic phenomenon of polluting and recovering the divinity appeared in ritual actions for rain, and analyzes from a mythological standpoint. The ritual place for rain is the top of mountains, rocks, ponds, cities, caves etc. where is recognized as divinity. Polluting the divinity is that the subject group make the ritual place for rain dirty with the blood of animal against drought. Pollution is recognized by the Godhead and it is believed that the Godhead makes to rain in order to recover the polluted divinity. Recovering the divinity is to move the Godhead through digging the grave. The group seeks for the cause of drought from the pollution of the ritual place and digging grave is recognized as recovery of the polluted divinity. The individual desires to polluting the divinity are confronted with a collective desire to recover the divinity. The public interests is superior to the moral attitude for the corpse. The antagonistic actions in ritual-for-rain narrative gives the intense faith for rainfall effects. These reflect the suffering of the population due to drought. The description structure of ‘drought- polluting with blood’ or ‘rainfall-digging graves’ follows that of ‘death and rebirth’ in myth. The blood and corpse is the symbol of death, the actions of washing and digging is that of new birth. The ability of the Godhead is recovered by the new birth and a collective desire can be achieved through that. The collective action for rainfall is the reproduction of the mythical birth.

    Interpreting《Ogamdo's》<Poem first> of Leesang in the context of literary history

    Hung Nyun Kim | 2013, 31() | pp.107~130 | number of Cited : 1
    There were many attempts to interpret《Ogamdo's》<Poem first> of Leesang. But any interpretation still does not seem to be proper. The reason must be, of course, because of the symbolism of <Poem first>. However it may be more attributable to the sloppy approaches to <Poem first>. This treatise analysed the syntactic structure of <Poem first> by priority, and achieved some noteworthy result. The different ways of interpretation were possible from the syntactic details of <Poem first> which was overlooked until now. The first interpretation was based on the intertextuality between Leesang’s <Poem first> and his other works. His pessimistic view of children in his other works seemed to be affected by Cocteau's《Les enfants terrible》. Due to the primary denotative interpretation of the symbolic poem <Poem first>, the secondary interpretation considered the context of <Poem first>’s emergence, reconstructed the semantics of <Poem first>, and interpreted the connatative meaning of <Poem first>. Consequently, the very meaningful sociological analysis was possible. Leesang was not only a bystander to his era. The most rewarding discovery of this treatise is the blood relation between <Poem first> and the French literary surrealism.

    koh chang-gyu | 2013, 31() | pp.183~213 | number of Cited : 20
    This article identifies elementary school teachers' perspectives about ‘good’ instruction found in lesson planning in order to explore the reason why there are differences between ‘good’ instruction outside classroom valuing student's inquiring process and actual instruction in classroom. The participants were seven elementary school teachers. Data were gathered through free description on points to be duly considered in lesson planning. The results showed that ‘good’ instructions considered by elementary school teachers were student-centered instruction valuing self-directed learning, cooperative learning, level learning, and creative learning, and process-centered instruction. If so, the reason why actual instructions were changed into result-centered instructions by teachers can be explained by teachers' optimized behaviors. In addition, This article tried to explain the above reason from the point of view that the difference between instructions outside and inside classroom was due to the failure that teachers could not concretize ‘good’ instruction planned by teachers in the actual instruction context of teacherstudents interaction.

    Abstract PDF
    This study considered the way of gender discourse of the Korean novels in postwar period, dividing those of male writers and female writers. I studied how the ‘sex’ of the female characters are treated in those novels, that is, the way of the gender ideology's operating on the female characters in postwar period. The way of gender discourse can be stereotyped, so the main female characters are classified into prostituted women and the women who express sexual desires of themselves. I considered the hierarchy and dualization of gender ideology from the attitudes of male writers and female writers treating these characters. I found out that even the female character being treated as 'woman of redemption' is completely ruled out by the modern male subjects, if she is a prostituted woman. And I confirmed the gender ideology of modern subjects through the fact that the novel of which the female character being evaluated as a subjective figure by female writers also ended tragically.
