Contemporary hospital has more and more extension because the growth and change of hospital has to respond the various needs. For expanding, the sky bridge(sky walk) becomes one of the method to interconnect two or more buildings on the air. Sometimes the designers don't know exactly how the sky bridge works after construction. Beyond the role of interconnecting two buildings, the role of sky bridge is transformed the main axis of pedestrian in the whole hospital organization. This scope of analysis is about the sky bridge of Hanyang University hospital. The first method is the investigation of the utilization in this time. The second is the analysis of design drawings got form the designing of the past(1994-1998). From this analysis, the conclusions are followings.；The designer who wants to apply the sky bridge should more consider about, 1) how the sky bridge impacts the whole spatial system such as the pedestrian, patients, physicians, service's facilities etc. 2) what the inside of sky bridge has something such as natural light, ventilation, and the height, depth, width of aisle, the sign for seeking orientation. etc. In future the research relating sky bridge should be studied some hospital as well as one hospital for comparing the characteristics of the concepts and organizations

Among the countless elements for healing environment in healthcare facility, 'privacy' has been rather neglected in general hospital designs in Korea. The fact may be due either to present situation of excessively crowded patients or to cultural origin which more stresses on the mass than on individuals.However, as patient amenity has increasingly become important, privacy should be viewed as one of the key elements in the general hospital design, in order to improve the quality of patient service as well as to compete with other hospitals. Also it is very important that those methods for privacy improvement should be not only theoretically correct but also practical enough to be compatible with medical efficiency, space availability or construction cost within a particular hospital.The purpose of this case study is to present an actual examples to improve patients' privacy adopted in the schematic design of the Seoul Asan Hospital renovation project, along with comparisons with other hospital cases.

The purpose of this study is not to understand functionalism from a simple program or effectiveness and economic perspective, but to reinterpret from a substantial perspective that modern architects assert commonly and to apply it to hospital design in a new way.

The evaluation of economy of wards is based on the building area. The parameters are nursing area per bed, occupied area per patient, and the portion of movement area.Three areas such as patient area, nurse area, and corridor area are devided. The results of analysis are as follows. At first, allocation of patient area has the highest priority. Even though nurse area is small, the patient area is relatively large. Secondly, the patient area is mostly determined by the type of rooms, such as single, double, etc.. Finally, the type of alley on the floor is important to economy. The single corridor type is the most economical followed by the double corridor type. the single loaded type shows the worst economy.

The purpose of this study is to find out the design guideline for women's hospital focusing on the patient needs. This study is performed the literature review of the performance evaluation & spatial satisfaction. And then, the spatial characteristics of selected women's hospitals, which were recently built in Korea, were analyzed. This study is suggested in the spatial satisfaction evaluation model in order to the spatial evaluation performance elements of the patient needs. The evaluation model of space efficiency derived from this study is expected to be used for the actual guide to architecture of women's hospitals as substantial materials. Finally, the model is used to for the planning & design for the future women's hospital .

In this study, I investigate the critical evaluation elements at the architectural competition held nationwide in Germany. These evaluation elements, which can be regarded as the important design evaluation criteria, are selected by the design competition committee. Generally, in Germany the design competition committee consist of professors and famous architects who have theoretical and practical abilities with their own office. I classify and analyze the critical evaluation elements of seventy committee members, working on the selected nine prize-winners in Germany from 1997 to 2001. I conclude that the critical evaluation elements, ordered by frequency are : ①circulation, ②context, ②function, ④landscape & outside space, ⑤organization of space, ⑥arrangement of building, ⑦form, ⑦growth & change, ⑨elevation design, ⑩utilization of natural light. These design evaluation criteria for Hospital Architecture in Germany also can be applied to the evaluation methods of the korean Healthcare facility design.
