This study tries to analyze excellent strategies of Admiral Yi, Sun-sin being showed in the Hansan Naval Battle, where Yi showed his perfect strategies and tactics. To do this, I, first of all, I illuminate making-process of his brilliant thoughts as naval strategies. Compared with those who were of same his age, Yi Sun-sin surely tried to study far harder than any others since his childhood. In addition, since his youth, he had read through all the books related to naval warfare and war strategies which made him the person fit as a naval strategy expert. It is true that his capability and insights being centered on strategy had been forming with helps from his father-in-law, Bang Jin and the supporter Yu, Seong-yong. While serving the military, plus, he had been developing his abilities as a strategy expert of the navy by studying and experiencing for fourteen years, until the time right before Japanese invading the Joseon Dynasty in 1592. Admiral Yi Sun-sin showed his ability as a commander of Joseon Navy in 1592. Above all, he loved his people and wanted to protect them as much as he could. He always thought that the war was overcome with the helps from Joseon people. Not to mention of it, he was well equipped with the importance of battle in sea. Nobody thought it without him. It was in the Hansan Great Victory that he showed his great talents for naval strategies. The Hansan Great Victory was the momentous sea battle between Joseon' Naval Forces and Japanese' picked naval troops. Yi Sun-sin showed multiple strategies in the battle. For example, his fleets used war-tactics with configurations of either sea or lands, battle ship array with situation, preemptive attacks with the Turtle-shaped Ship and attacks with fires. All these tactics led to great victory. The most important factor of Hansan Great Victory was Yi Sun-sin's unique strategies showed in the navy battles.

International criminal tribunal to impose punishment on Nazis was held in Nürnberg, on 14 November 1945. Through this tribunal, the brutality of Nazis was disclosed to the public, which provided the Allies with sound ground of punishing the Nazis. The Nürnberg International Criminal Tribunal was significant as the first fundamental international trial, and currently it has become a role model for those trials. However the legitimacy of punishing the defeated in the name of justice is somewhat dubious, primarily because it's related with complicated legal problems. Thus this article concentrates on explaining the significance of several legal problems caused by Nürnberg Tribunal. First I examined the historical background of how this trial was prepared and how it was operated(II). Then I continued examining the legal problems of the Tribunal(III), and I finished the discussion with summarizing the historical and legal significance of the Tribunal(IV). Thereby I reached the conclusion that, although the Nürnberg Tribunal has its limits in grasping several aspects of war crimes, it has dealt with other problems quite well.

Today's international order in Northern-East Asia region can be understood to be on the way of reforming again through the leadership of the US. Because there's no other countries have political power and military strength against the US. Only the recently rising China has been recognized to restrain the US. Therefore, if the “present situation” goes on, the future of Northern-East Asia could have a great chance to develope under the competing composition between the US and China. This study concerns about the reason why such a “present situation” prescribes the order of Northern-East Asia region today. In this region, each country should have reconsidered its own status from the various dynamic relationship, but it didn't actually. There's a lot of reasons. One of the reasons is that the relationship between Japan and Russia, the major actors in this region, could not develop normally against the territorial problem. The most important thing is Japan and the Russia stay uncomfortable in spite of their beneficialness of each other, especially on the weakness-the capital and skill in Japan, the energy resources and skill in Russia-. After all, this situation did the work of sticking between China needs the energy resources and the military scientific skill and Russia wants the military weapon skill, strengthen the alliance between the US needs to keep restraint effectively and Japan wants to be a normal country. In short, this study is about the explanation that Russia and Japan work out their national strategies not the best but the second because of the territorial problem, though the best and the easiest national strategies for them are made from the development of their relationship. Also this research analyzes that situation has been the most import factor prescribing the situation of international order in Northern-East Asia region since the post-cold war era.

A Study on the Policy Direction to

    Abstract PDF
Since the end of the Cold War, international security environment has been momentously changed, and newly emerged non-military threats have been serious concerns for national security. The nontraditional threats have changed each country’s notions of national strategy and challenged its armed forces accordingly. To cope with this challenge, the military is conducting important missions conceptualized as military operations other than war (MOOTW). Since the PKO dispatch in 1993, MOOTW has becoming overriding issue in Korea, and lots of researches have been conducted to develop the concept, application and type of MOOTW. Most of the studies, however, have been based on the examples of the US and mainly focused on the military perspectives, creating problems and limitations to apply them in the actual Korean situations. Since MOOTW involve both combat and noncombat elements, the participation and coordination of various government agencies and civil organizations are essential. Thus, the goal of this paper is to develop the optimal policy option for Korea in regard to developing MOOTW by comparing the case studies of the US, NATO, and Australia. The case studies show that the development of MOOTW should start with the awareness of security environment and entail an appropriate operational type to the Korean situation. Along with that, political legitimacy, unity of effort, and institutionalized legal system should be involved. The establishment of the institutionalized legal system of MOOTW is essential because it is not a matter of choice but a requisite in Korea.
