The purpose of this study is to provide visual wind resource information from WRF model and support renewable energy(RE) use. Multi-dimensional WRF model was visualized by wind barb design. Graphics and colors for wind barb are defined and times were serialized. Three WRF model web DB conversion algorithms were compared for system efficiency and finally optimized web DB (KML) was integrated with other geo-spatial DB by mesh-up with Google Earth. Microsoft .NET was used for wind barb design and Google Earth v.4.3 was used for mesh-up and RE application. This study
will help not only RE use but also reliable decision making in urban/land activities.
It is inconvenient to obtain geographic coordinate value on a paper map which the space between lines of latitude and longitude is relatively large. Also it is unhandy to find one's location on a paper map by using handheld GPS. Due to these problems, one tend not to use paper map with handheld GPS even if the paper map provides plentiful geographical information. Also it is impossible to use a paper map with handheld GPS if the paper map does not contain several coordinate lines, coordinate value, and geodetic datum. The map based rectangular grid can solve these problems that one can easily use any kind of paper map through the handheld GPS. The map based rectangular grid is a projected coordinate system which the user can arbitrarily plan. It is a coordinate system which increases its value by 1cm along horizontal and vertical grid lines regardless of the map scale. It is easy and fast to attain located points since coordinate value can indicate the value of map based rectangular grid on a paper map. The user can directly input user define coordinate system by setting up coordinate system of handheld GPS. By using map based rectangular grid, it is easier and faster to indicate the specific value of map based rectangular grid, and one can just input the corresponding value to handheld GPS and save as “Waypoint”. However it has drawbacks that it requires to coordinate system set up on the handheld GPS according to paper used. Another problem is that it is not used commonly because the value of map based rectangular grid generates relative coordinate value.
This study considers the life and achievements of Tadataka Ino, who is the representative Japanese geographer and made the first map of Japan by land surveying; Dainihon enkai yochi zenzu. We mainly investigate his life before he began to study regularly in his fifties, the historic and social background of Japan at that time, and also the whole process of making the map by the land surveying of the whole Japan. At first, Tadataka Ino began the land surveying with his individual effort in order to measure the correct distance of latitude 1 degree. But finally, this map was completed as the official work of the Tokugawa Shogunate, because the importance and necessity of the map had come to be more widely acknowledged in the historic and social background of Japan at that time.
Dokdo had been part of Korean territory since 512 when it belonged to Silla as a name of Usando and Japan had recognized Ulungdo & Dokdo as a Korean territory calling them Jukdo & Songdo. However in 1905, Japan changed its name to Jukdo and included to their territory by force. However it is the nexorable fact that “Dokdo is Korean territory” as we can find many evidences from Korean old maps. Even the official map issued by Japan and more than 300 kinds of maps of Japan in 19th century were recognizing Dokdo as a territory which belongs to Korea. Besides, we can see many of old Western maps showing Dokdo as a Korean territory.
With the current development of GIS, the web-based GIS is providing the more various and powerful functions of the map visualization efficiently. Also, the importance of the population migration statistics related to the national spatial
information infrastructure is being emphasized. In this regard, the services of the population migration statistics need to be combined with various kinds of map visualization functions based on Web GIS. The purpose of this research
is to establish the efficient plan for providing the population migration statistics based on the Web GIS. The proposed plan had the vision of “the embodiment of the advanced migration statistics service based on Web GIS”, and the detailed strategies were established based on the principles of the comprehensiveness, the interactivity in both the short and long term perspectives. Through this plan, the embodiment of the more efficient map visualization for the population migration statistics will be expected.
P-median problem has been found to provide optimal solution in a wide range of spatial complexity problems, especially facility location problems. In this paper, the p-median algorithm has been used to deal with the complex problem of zone design. The zone design problem comprises a large number of geographic tasks, from which census zone redistricting, electoral districting, school zone planning. In this paper, a formalization of the census zone problem, suitable for processing by the p-median algorithm is described, and its solution heuristic is tested for different zoning cases.
Cooper’s search heuristic, suited to the p-median algorithm is presented together with a p-median objective function. A practical real world example with census output areas is given and tests performed in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the p-median approach.
The purpose of this study is to propose the standardization of the wind speed map legend for wind resource visualization. The class intervals of wind speed and color systems for wind resource are analyzed based on the case studies on wind resource maps in many countries. In addition to this, the functions of colors and emotional effects by the colors was studied. On the basis of color function and emotional effects, wind speed map legend was composed of violet, purple, blue, green and beige colors system. Nevertheless, there still need further studies on the class interval of legend based on wind power density for wind resource map.
Birdseye-viewed sheet is one of the requisite materials for registration of building. On the contrary, digital map and digital orthophoto with DEM become more important with advance of internet information service. We suggest the
classification scheme for the bird eye-viewed sheets. Korean cases and international cases are reviewed for the satellite imagery related to bird eye-viewed sheet. In order to check out the market acknowledgement of remotely sensed data, inquests were distributed to engineering company and local government. Thematic Maps which have been examined by Korean Association of Survey and Mapping were statistically classified to see the role of bird eye-viewed sheets with satellite imagery. The problems and issue to set criteria for the examination was discussed.
