    Recent trends of gem-quality colorless synthetic diamonds

    Recently, significant amounts of gem-quality colorless HPHT synthetic melee diamond have produced for the jewelry industry. Consequently, there have been reports of cases of fraud in the world diamond business. For example, intentionally selling synthetic diamond as natural diamond or intentionally mixing a natural diamond parcel with a synthetic. As a result, the separation of natural from synthetic melee diamonds has become increasingly critical. At present, 10,000 cubic hinge presses are used for the production of synthetic diamond in China. From among these, reportedly 1,000 presses are used for gem-quality diamond production. One press can produce up to 10ct melee-size diamonds in 24 hours. Randomly occurring pinpoint or flux-metal inclusions are diagnostic identification clues. However, some synthetic diamonds require advanced laboratory method for identification. In order to ensure consumer confidence, it is essential to screen melees so as to distinguish all synthetic goods.

    Application of Zn2TiO4 for nucleation and control of willemite crystalline glaze

    Zn2TiO4, which is a progenitor of zinc crystallization, plays a significant role in controlling the crystallization of willemite (Zn2SiO4) in forming glaze at low temperatures. Thus, Zn2TiO4 was used to formulate stable willemite and to gain structural control. When synthesized 15 wt% of Zn2TiO4 is added to engobe and then applied, it can manipulate its crystallization and location. Additionally, when colorant is added to Zn2TiO4 and then applied to engobe, the mixture’s colorant effect can be shown at crystallization. Certain characteristics of synthesized Zn2TiO4 enable various engobes to be applied to clay bodies. With a single glazing, the crystallization, location, and color of the crystals can be discretionarily regulated.

    Synthesis and characterization of thermoelectric Zn1−xAgxSb compounds

    Thermoelectric compounds of Zn1−xAgxSb with x = 0~0.2 were prepared by vacuum melting and quenching process and their crystal phases and thermoelectric properties were examined. It was found that free metallic Sb phases were formed in the compound with x = 0.05, leading to increasing the electrical conductivities. The power factors were significantly affected by the electrical conductivity rather than Seebeck coefficient. When x > 0.05, the peak intensities of Ag3Sb phases in XRD patterns were increased and those of free Sb phases were weakened. These changes of second phases resulted in decreasing the electrical conductivities and the power factors and became more obvious in the compound with x = 0.2.

    In this study, high performance patching repair mortars with light weight and sulfuric acid resistance properties were suggested. Their performance estimation were investigated based on KS F 4042 using patching repair mortar with light weight aggregate and soluble polymer of Type I and sulfuric acid resistance mortar of Type II, From these results, it was confirmed that these motors were satisficed and improved by all standard tests of KS F 4042.

    Effects of compatibility between PNS Superplasticzer and soluble alkali of cements on performances of concrete

    A polynaphthalenesulfonate (PNS) superplasticizer and its relation to the fluidity of cement paste (w/c = 0.35) has been investigated for three cements at a given dosage of PNS superplasticizer. Chemical properties of three cements were characterized with a XRD, XRF. The additive effects of Na2SO4 on the fresh concrete with w/c = 0.33 were also estimated by the measurement of compressive strength, slump, air content. The experimental results exhibited that the addition of sodium sulfate 2.6 % to the cement A and C improves slump loss. In case of cement E, the addition of sodium sulfate 1.3 % was effective.

    A study on the design for the road bike frame made by carbon fiber materials

    Carbon fiber frames are actively developed for developing carbon fiber frames as the material of the next generation of bicycle frames, and are currently being developed with carbon fiber frames, hardness, shock absorption, light intensity, and strength. The carbon fiber bike models require a premium, differentiated design concept, which is essential to the development of a conceptual and differentiated design, requiring the development of essential structural structures, safety and refinement, and more of their own identity. In this study, a personal and unified image was derived from the research of the needs of consumers and image analysis process and then in the practical design work, the road bike bicycle frame design was proposed targeting the frame on the basis of carbon fiber materials.

    A study on User-centered product design process proposal for materials adoption

    When a product is designed, user’s requirements should be well analyzed and applied to the design so that the psychological and aesthetic factors of a product can be accurately conveyed to consumers. The essence of product development is to analyze the changes in the purchasing tendency of consumers and the needs of times, find out user experiences to apply to a design, and establish the objective of product development that well considers those. Designing should be recognized as one that designs even the sensitivity and experience created in the relationship with users, beyond the conventional notion of design that it draws the physical form of a product. As the subjects that design should consider have expanded like this, it has become important that today's design provides a new experience as well as simply develops formative elements based on the functions of an object. As a result, it becomes impossible to accomplish such objective only with the traditional design process that existing designers have stuck to so far. In this respect, this study is aimed to draw out a system and methodology for a user-oriented design process so that design can provide expanded experience to users from product form, applied material, and service.

    Structural analysis and design proposal of fine dust mask with nanofiber filter fabricated using electrospinning

    The microstructures of nonwoven fabric with and without nanofibers used as a filter for air purification type mask were investigated using scanning electron microscope. Moreover, we proposed a new mask design which is effective in the improvement of the fine dust blocking property. When comparing to nonwoven fabrics of which an average diameter was 25 μm, the nanofibers formed by the electrospinning process had a tight mesh structure arranged irregularly with a relatively large specific surface area, which could be associated with their much smaller diameter ranging from 25 to 120 nm. Such a prominent structural feature at nanofibers led to mechanical adsorption of fine particles, resulting in enhancement of filtering behavior maintaining high permeability. In addition to the excellent performance of the mask filter, wearing the mask properly is expected to maximize the blocking property of fine dust. To meet such a requirement, a new mask design that can be closely attached to the face in order to effectively block fine dust entering the gap between the face and the mask.

    In recent years, the service design in the medical sector evolves through practical service research and development that can visualize both intangible and intangible service elements in an integrative way and derive innovative solutions to help customers feel the service more important value. With the improvement of personal income, interest in medical welfare and well-being is increasing day by day, and the focus of the medical sector shifts from the concept of treatment of diseases and illness to preventive medicine. In response to this trend, research and development of home health care system, which greatly reduces the time and space constraint of health checkup and health care by combining ubiquitous concept with medical welfare, are being actively conducted, and the needs for improving products and medical environment based on user-centered medical service and user needs in accordance with the Health Care 3.0 Era, it becomes necessary to develop on-site medical diagnostic products that reflect user-centered needs and needs. This study is intended to research and develop a product that sufficiently reflects the needs of users by applying suitable materials and shape for on-site diagnostic product in researching and developing Wireless X-ray Detector.

    A study on universal walker design for elders with bent back

    The most of the elders or patients that use common walkers do not have enough physical strength in the legs and cannot walk for a long time where they want to go. So it is necessary to take rests and highly required to develop a multi-function walker that can guide walking safely for weak elders or patients with IT application products at the same time. This study is focused on the walkers for elders with bent back and the design to grant new values for elders to overcome limitations of existing walkers.

    To become a person that is suitable to the ‘High-Touch’ generation where emotion takes over, we can focus on 6 skill including design, story, harmony, empathy, play, and meaning. Among these skills, harmony with design was chosen as the most important skill. Design can be seen as the basic element of all business, but it will be difficult to match the flow of the future Sensibility and intuitive generation with just the modern design that has been made based on reasonable and objective information and knowledge. This study suggests system and standardization of Sensibility surface processing design that satisfies great quality, attractive quality and Sensibility quality by applying surface processing design of product and Sensibility cognitive factors felt by the consumer by setting differentiated strategy and CMF (Color, Material, Finishing) understanding along with the importance of design materials in primary aspect. By considering the efficacy/characteristic of new surface processing characteristic/differentiation/possibility of implementation according to setting direction of differentiated CMF strategy per type of parts applied to the product, visual surface processing sample was implemented. Through this, it is expected that practical communication connected tool and Sensibility surface processing design’s strategic access framework can be applied by understanding and sharing comprehensive elements such as target product, part type, applied material, applied surface processing, surface color, surface texture, and implementing feeling to environments such as designers, CMF designers, surface processing experts, and engineers in IT, electronics, and other areas. when developing a product.
