    경남일부지역 노인복지시설 입소자의 구강건강 실태조사

    Study on actual condition of oral hygiene among admitted aged person at the some of Gyeongnam welfare facilities Hyun-Kyung Kang, Hye-Jung Song1, Eun-Kyung Lee1 Department of dental hygiene, Dongju college 1Department of dental hygiene, Masan college Key words : Aged person, Oral hygiene, Welfare facility for aged person In Korea, respect for the aged and filial devotion is treated as basic ethics for human life, and family takes care of the aged person mainly. Nowadays, family support on the aged person is prioritized than the others. However, number of aged person is growing, and family, which is used to protect the aged, becomes nuclear through industrialization. In addition, social advancement of female induces weakened supporting function of family, and all these issues generate the problem of protection for the aged as significant social problems. Author conducted oral inspection and questionnaire for the aged in some welfare facilities in Gyeongnam location from December 2005 to February 2006 to improve quality of life and oral hygiene of the aged. Through gathered data, the actual condition of oral hygiene management on the aged person in welfare facility was evaluated as fundamental data for project development on oral hygiene of aged person. Through the analysis of inspected data, the following conclusions are derived. 1. Management status of oral hygiene is mostly not good, and toothbrushing per day is 'one time' for the most cases. 2. In free-of-charge facility, monthly allowance is 'under 50 thousand won' for the most cases. 3. Time for visiting oral treatment facility is on 'when toothache is occurred' for the most cases. For treatment content, 'prosthetic dentistry' takes 36.8% in charged facility, and 'tooth extraction' is 27.0% for free-of-charge facility. 4. Average DMFT index of the aged in charged facility is 16.81, and free-of-charge facility is 21.71. 5. Average number of functional teeth in charged facility is 15.22, and free-of-charge facility shows 7.29. 6. Average number of remained teeth in charged facility is 15.71, and the umbe in free-of-charge facility is 9.04. 7. Average number of extractable teeth in charged facility is 0.48, and for free-of-charge facility, the number goes up to 1.70.

    Influence of Dental Services on Satisfaction of Old Prosthetic Patients Soon-Duck Kim Department of Dental Hygiene, Masan College Key words: dental service, dental prosthesis satisfaction service, patient satisfaction The main objective of this study is to investigate the improvement of the quality of dental health based on the dental service satisfaction factors of the old dental prosthesis patients of more than 60 years of age who use the dental institutes including dental hospital, clinic, and public health center and to identify the interest in the dental prosthesis as changing point. Across the country through a questionnaire survey of a question and answer type conducted by the trained dental hygienists or dentist's. Major results of the empirical analysis are as follows. 1, looking at variation of the variables of socio-demographic features of the respondents, the group of female, age distribution of 60-65, average monthly income of 0.5-1 million Won, and schooling background of college showed significant difference. And the prosthesis treatment in terms of the purpose of visiting a dental institute, and the dental clinic in terms of the type of visiting dental institute showed a remarkably significant difference. 2, looking at variation of variables of the general features of the respondents, a prosthesis satisfaction service in terms of age showed significant difference; a prosthesis satisfaction service, dental staffs' service and dental facilities' service in terms of average monthly income showed significant difference; the entire conditions except for the dental facilities' service in terms of schooling and general features showed significant difference; and in terms of the purpose of visiting dental institute, it showed no significant difference. In terms of a visiting dental institute, the prosthesis satisfaction service, dental facilities, overall level of satisfaction, result of treatment, word of mouth and revisit showed significant difference. 3, looking at variation of the variables of post-installation prosthesis satisfaction of the respondents, the prosthesis satisfaction service, dentist's dental service, staffs' service, dental facilities' service and revisit in terms of the prosthesis type; and the prosthesis satisfaction service, word of mouth, revisit and overall level of satisfaction from the perspective of serious concern showed significant difference. The prosthesis satisfaction service and dentist's service in terms of the solving the economic burden; and the entire variables in terms of dissatisfaction elements showed a similar level of significant difference 4, in regard to the satisfaction of dental service and the change of the recognition of prosthesis patients, it was revealed that the level of dental prosthesis satisfaction of the respondents was closely related to the dentist's service, staffs' service, and dental facilities' service. Finally, looking at the influence of the dental service on the treatment result, satisfaction, word of mouth, revisit and the overall satisfaction level, it was revealed that they had a great impact on the prosthesis satisfaction service.

    A Study incremental dental care programs of appraisal report for oral health education elementary school in Ulsan City Youn Hwa Kim Dept. of Dental Hygiene, Ulsan College Key word : Dental caries prevention, Oral health education elementary school, incremental Dental care, Pit and Fissure Sealing This purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for preventing dental caries, and maintaining and enhancing Oral health education. The subject of this study through the survey of the recognition of Oral health education, a questionnaire survey and dental experience and Pit and fissure sealant status was conducted for 334 male and female students who were in the 4th, 5th, 6th grade of elementary school in Ulsan city. Statistical analysis was conducted using the SPSS 11.5 with t-test, ANOVA and correlation. The obtained results were as follows 1. Experience caries on permanent teeth was male score of 58.0% and female score of 42.0% and an everage score of 52.7% very low. 2. The students who were in the 4th, 5th, 6th grade of elementary school Experience caries on permanent teeth is grad higher(p=0.000), Pit and fissure sealant of teeth number and teeth surface status by grad higher (p<0.016, p=0.000). 3. Oral health knowledge and behavior is significantly related to status(p=0.001), behavior and Daily tooth brushing frequency was significantly related to status(p=0.000), But experience caries on permanent teeth and Oral health knowledge and behavior beween wasn't significantly related to status.

    일부대학생들의 구강건강인식과 그 영향 요인 분석

    A Study on Some College Students' Awareness of Oral Health and Relevant Influential Factors Sun-Mi Lee Department of Dental Hygiene, Dongnam Health College Key words : Oral Health Promotion Behaviors, Control of Oral Health, Oral Health Knowledge The purpose of this study was to provide information about the development of curricula geared toward improving the oral health of college students and of oral-health education programs in an effort to teach college students to be knowledgeable about oral health throughout their lives. The subjects in this study were 455 students at three different colleges in Gyeonggi province, on whom a survey was conducted. As for the basic oral health care of the college students investigated, 54.5 percent had ever visited a dental clinic over the last year, and 34.7 percent had their teeth scaled over the last year. Regarding self- awareness of current oral health state, 77 percent felt there's something wrong with their oral health. Concerning the correlation of their oral health behavior and knowledge to each selected variable, better internal and external locus of control led to better oral health promotion behaviors and better oral health knowledge. As to their self-perception of oral health and influential factors, better toothbrushing, better dietary habits and periodical oral examination, which belonged to oral health promotion behaviors, were followed by better oral health locus of control, and higher concern for oral health led to better oral health locus of control as well. Better toothbrushing, better dietary habits, periodical oral examination and better internal locus of control were concurrent with higher interest in oral health. Better external locus of control and stronger concern for oral health were accompanied by better oral health promotion behaviors.

    마 추출물의 구강병 원인균에 대한 항균력

    Antibacterial Activities against Oral Microbes by Yam Extract Gi-Ok Jung Department of Dental Hygiene, Daegu Health College Key words : Antibacterial Activity, Oral Microbes, Yam Yam was stepwise extracted with hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, butanol, and water. Antibacterial activity of each extract was investigated. 1. Methanol extract of Yam was examed against to antibacterial effects on S. mutans KCTC 5316, P. gingivalis KCTC 5352, S. aureus KCTC 1927 by means of agar diffusion method. 2. The methanol extract of Yam was showed very powerfull antibacterial activity on S. mutans, but not showed on P. gingivalis, and S. aureus. 3. The MIC of Yam hexane fraction was 0.25 ㎎/㎖ for S. mutans KCTC 5316 4. The Yam hexane fraction strong inhibited the growth of S. mutans, in the culture medium at concentration of 0.25㎎/㎖.

    서울․경기지역 특수학교 아동의 장애등급 및 유형별 구강보건실태조사

    A survey on the oral health status of the disabled children attending the special schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi area according to the type and degree of disabilities Won-Gyun Chung ․ Young-Nam Kim ․ Nam-Hee Kim* ․ Sun-Ok Jang ․ Hyun-Sun Jeon Department of Dental Hygiene, Wonju College of Medicine, Yonsei University Key words: disabled children, level of disabilities, oral health, special schools, type of disabilities The purposes of this study were to investigate the oral health status of the disabled children attending special schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi area, which were to collect baseline data for set up a oral health center in special schools. The study group comprised 915 disabled children aged 12~15 year. They were examined clinically and surveyed on 4 oral health related characteristics according to the type and level of disabilities The results may be summarized as follows: 1. DMFT index was the highest in children with crippled disorder. The plaque control was more required to the children with mental retardation or developmental disorder other than another types of disabilities. 2. About one third of the children with mental retardation or developmental disorder had their teeth brushed at least 3 times daily without any help. Over the half of the children with crippled disorder had their teeth brushed 2 times daily, 33.3% were independent and 38.9% totally dependent on help from others. 3. The more level of disabilities was higher, the more frequency of tooth brushing was lower and degree of dependance of the tooth brushing was higher. 4. There was tendency to visit to dental office more frequently for relief of dental symptoms in children with crippled disorder 5. The inability to call for help from others was the major barrier to dental care for the disabled.

    치과위생사의 보수교육 실태 및 인식에 관한 연구

    A Study on the State of Inservice Education for Dental Hygienists and Their Relevant Awareness Jae-Yeon Jung, 1Kyung-Mi Kim, 2Myung-Sook Cho, 3Geum-Sun Ahn, 4Kyoung-Hee Song, 2Hye-Jung Choi, 5Youn-Seon Choi, Yoon-Sook Hwang Department of Dental Hygiene, Hanyang Women's College, 1Department of Dental Hygiene, Chung Cheong University, 2Department of Dental Hygiene, Suwon Women's College, 3Department of Dental Hygiene, Kyungbok College, 4Department of Dental Hygiene, Cheju Tourism College, 5Seongdong Health center key words : Inservice Education1, Awareness2, Dental Hygienist3, The purpose of this study was to examine the reality of inservice education provided to members of Korean Dental Hygienists Association, the state of relevant academic conferences, and the perception of the members about inservice education and academic conference. It's basically meant to help boost their participation in inservice education and their satisfaction with it, and to show some of the right directions for that. The subjects in this study were dental hygienists who attended a symposium on July 1, 2006. After a survey was conducted, the answer sheets from 489 participants were analyzed, and the findings of the study were as follows: 1, General hospitals and university hospitals made up the largest group(91.4%) that gave a monthly leave of absence, and the second largest group was dental hospitals(75.4%), followed by dental clinics(58.3%) and public dental clinics(48.0%). The most common closing time in dental clinics and dental hospitals was 5 p.m., and that was 12 p.m. in general hospitals and university hospitals. The dental hygienists in public dental clinics didn't work on Saturdays. By type of workplace, treatment was the most common duty for the dental hygienists in dental clinics and dental hospitals to perform, and those who worked at general hospitals, university hospitals and public health clinics were in charge of extensive range of jobs. 2, The rates of the dental hygienists who took that education stood at 94.9% in public dental clinics, 78.7% in dental hospitals and 75.3% in dental clinics, general hospitals and university hospitals. Regarding how many marks they got on an yearly basis, those who got eight marks or more made up the largest group(55.6%), followed by four marks or more(11.8%), six marks or more(3.4%), and two marks or more(1.5%). As for the usefulness of inservice education for their job performance, the largest number of the dental hygienists(40.8%) found it to be helpful, and the second greatest group(37.5%) considered its effectiveness to be so-so. The third largest group(8.4%) found it to be of great use, and the fourth biggest group(4.2%) considered it to be of no service. The fifth biggest group(1.3%) thought it was absolutely useless. By type of workplace, the workers in dental clinics, dental hospitals, general hospitals and university hospitals wanted the most to learn how to take care of clinical work (acquisition of up-to-date technology), and those in public health clinics hoped the most to learn about public dental health. By type of workplace, the workers in dental clinics had their sight set on self-development the most, and the dental hygienists in dental hospitals, general hospitals, university hospitals and public health clinics were most in pursuit of acquiring new knowledge. By type of workplace, the specific given conditions at work were most singled out by the dental clinic workers as the reason, and the dental hospital employees pointed out time constraints the most. The dental hygienists in general hospitals and university hospitals cited time constraints and financial burden the most, and the public health clinic personnels mentioned inaccessibility of a place for inservice education as the reason. 3, The public health clinic workers participated in academic conferences the most(90.8%), followed by the general and university hospital personnels (68.8%), dental hospital employees(65.6%) and dental clinic workers (65.5%). By type of workplace, the public health clinic workers(73.5%) expressed the most satisfaction, followed by the general and university hospital employees(67.7%), dental clinic workers(62.3%) and dental hospital personnels(54.1%). By type of workplace, the employees of dental clinics, dental hospitals, general hospitals and university hospitals preferred Saturdays, and the public health clinic workers had a liking for weekdays. As for a favored place, hotels were most preferred, followed by university hospitals, general hospitals, college lecture rooms, district halls and local public institutions. Hotels were most favored regardless of the type of workplace. 4, Regarding outlook on inservice education, they had the highest opinion on the facilities and given conditions of lecture rooms(3.41±0.83), followed by the professionalism of lecturers(3.34±0.83), procedures of receipt and attendance confirmation(3.34±0.83) and class size(3.13±0.89). On the contrary, they took the most dismal view of the inaccessibility of a place of inservice education(2.08±0.92), followed by limited opportunity and limited date for that education(2.51±0.99), extra financial burden (2.53±1.18) and high tuition fee(2.57±0.96).

    지역아동센터 방문 아동을 위한 구강건강증진 프로그램 필요에 대한 연구 - 인천광역시를 중심으로

    A Study on the necessity of oral health promotion program for children visiting local childcare centers: the case of Incheon Su-Jin Han, Hwang Yoon-Sook1 Dept. of Dental Hygienic, Gachon University of Medicine and Science 1Dept. of Dental Hygiene, Hanyang Women's college Key words: local childcare centers, oral health behavior, oral health awareness The purpose of this study was to pave the way for the development of oral health promotion programs for children from the low-income class. The subjects in this study were 322 children from the city of Incheon. Some of them visited local childcare centers, and the others attended six different adjacent elementary schools. Their awareness of oral health, oral health behavior and preventive-treatment experience were investigated in May 2005, and whether there were any characteristics in their visit of dental institutions was checked. Besides, whether their parents advised them to brush their teeth before turning in was examined. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. 22.0 percent of the children investigated were visiting local childcare centers, and 78.0 percent weren't. The guardians of the former group largely received high-school(50.7%) and middle-school or lower education (22.5%), and those of the latter group mostly received high-school (41.0%) and college- or higher education(35.5%)(p<0.001). The common monthly mean household income of the former was one million won or less(54.9%) or ranged from 1.01 to 2.00 million won(19.7%), and the most prevalent monthly mean household income of the latter was between 2.01 and 3.50 million won(28.7%). The second most dominant monthly mean household income of the latter ranged from 1.01 to 2.00 million won (28.3%), and the third most common one was 3.50 million won or more (12.0%)(p<0.001). 2. The most prevalent daily toothbrushing frequency among the local childcare center visitors was twice(39.4%), followed by three times (19.7%). The third largest group of the visitors brushed their teeth after each meal(19.7%). The most dominant daily toothbrushing frequency among the non-users of local childcare centers was twice(54.2%), followed by three times(29.1%)(p<0.01). As to the way of toothbrushing, 58.2 percent of the visitors and 74.9 percent of the non-visitors brushed their teeth by turning their toothbrush or up and down(p>0.05). 62.0 percent of the former and 74.9 percent of the latter always brushed their teeth before turning in, and whether they visited local childcare centers made a significant difference to that(p<0.05). 3. 69.7 percent of the non-visitors were always advised by their parents to do toothbrushing before turning in, and the visitors who were given the same advice all the time numbered 29.6 percent(p<0.001). 4. 56.4 percent of the visitors and 72.1 percent of the non-visitors had ever visited dental institutions over the past year. Dental hospitals and clinics were identified as the dental institutions that they visited the most, and they mostly received dental-caries treatment or had a tooth out there. 49.3 percent of the visitors and 35.1 percent of the non-visitors had ever had a toothache. 5. Sealant was experienced by 42.3 percent of the visitors and 46.2 percent of the non-visitors to prevent dental caries(p>0.05). 33.8 percent of the visitors underwent fluoride application, and that rate was higher than that of the non-visitors with the same experience that stood at 22.7 percent(p<0.05). The visitors mainly acquired knowledge on oral health through other channels that weren't specified in the questionnaire(28.2%), and the non-visitors did it mostly at dental clinics(39.0%)(p<0.001).
