The purpose of this study was to explore academic motivation variables (growth mindset, task value, academic self-efficacy, and outcome expectation) that predict academic achievement of cyber university students. Then this study aimed to determine whether there is a difference in academic motivation variables between groups according to the type of changes in their academic achievement. To achieve this purpose, academic motivation variables were measured for 263 adult learners at A Cyber University, and their mid-term and final exam scores were collected. First, a hierarchical multiple regression analysis was performed to check whether the academic motivation variable predicts the mid-term and final exam scores significantly. Next, in order to check whether there is a difference in the academic motivation variables according to the type of changes in achievement from the mid-term to the final exam, the deviation scores of the mid-term and the final exam were divided into three groups based on the 30% percentile, and One-way ANOVA analysis was performed to confirm the difference. As a result of the analysis, first, the task difficulty preference and task value positively predicted both the mid-term and final exams, and the extrinsic outcome expectation negatively predicted. Also, the growth mindset negatively predicted the final exam. Second, there was a significant difference in the self-regulation efficacy of academic self-efficacy among the groups by type of change in academic achievement from the mid-term to the final exam.
