Aims & Scope
.The purpose of “The Journal of Transdisciplinary Studies (JTS)” is to usher in the era of convergence studies by overcoming the limitations of problem solving via a single field of study through convergence and complex research by convergence researchers across various fields, and provide theories and technologies to pioneer as such. The JTS covers multi-disciplinary case reports of interdisciplinary sciences including original works, reviews, as well as the humanities, science and engineering, medicine, pharmacology, art, and physical education. The JTS is an English language journal published twice per year via evaluation by 3 or more peers, and is also published on June 30th and December 31st of each year.   • A Relationship Between Oral Health and Obesity of Cardiovascular Disease for Those Aged 40 or Older

    This study has analyzed the relationship between the oral health status, oral health behavioral status, and obesity targeting 2,110 adults aged 40 years or older who were diagnosed with the cardiovascular disease, and identified the need for a proper weight management and healthy oral care practice for the oral health behavior, with a view to prepare the basic data thereto by analyzing the raw data of the 8th annual raw data for the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2019). As for the oral health behavior of the subjects, the frequency of brushing per day for the obesity group turned out to be the highest at 51.6% (p<0.01), and as for the oral care product other than toothbrush or toothpaste, the use of toothpaste solution turned out to be high at 54.6% (p<0.01). The probability of becoming obese among the obesity group without drinking experiences turned out to be 0.198 times higher than among the obesity group with drinking experiences. Considering the results of this study, there were no significant differences found in terms of the oral health status and oral health behavior status among the patients with cardiovascular disease belonging to the obesity group, yet it was found to be related to the differences according to the lifelong drinking experience. Hence, it is determined that the obesity management among the patients with cardiovascular disease is required via the sys temic and oral health behaviors and appropriate physical activities in daily life.
  • Estimation of Lifetime Dental Expenses for Diabetics

    Objectives : The objective of this study was to estimate a Korean’s lifetime dental expenses depending on diabetics. Methods : We ana lyzed the Korea Health Panel Survey from 2010 to 2017. The samples of diabetics extracted from 137,588 using R version 3.0 in the data of outpatient dental care and estimation of lifetime dental expenditures for diabetics generated using Excel. Results : The results showed that an estimate of average per capita lifetime dental expenditure was about 6.5 million won for men (33 years) and about 6.4 million won for women (30 years). About 50% of their lifetime dental expenditure for diabetics incurred after age 65. Conclusions : Dental care pro fessionals should always effort to control risk factors in diabetics under 65 years to reduce dental expenses and improve to oral health promotion.
  • The Influence of Discussion-based Teaching Method of Online Education on the Effectiveness of Adult Learning

    This study was conducted to understand the effect of discussion-type online education on the learning effect of 696 people who took the discussion-type learning at K Cyber University. The collected data were analyzed using ANOVA. As a result of the study, the learning effect increased in all items in 2020 compared to 2019. In the analysis by grade level, there was no significant difference in 2019, but in 2020, the Freshman significantly decreased in learning motivation, interaction and cognitive participation, satisfaction, perceived usefulness, and learn ing achievement. In the analysis by age, in 2019, learning motivation, cognitive participation, perceived usefulness, interaction, and immersion were significantly higher in the age group over 60 years old. In 2020, the motivation for learning was higher in the age group over 60 years old, and in interaction and cognitive participation, under 39 years old and over 60 years old were higher, academic achievement was under 39 years old, and loyalty was under 39 years old and 50-59 years old were higher. As a result, discussion-based learning can be said to be a learning method to improve the learner’s class satisfaction. As a measure to improve learner satisfaction in the future, it is necessary to prepare a basic approach to improve the learning effect for first graders, who have poor learning effects in all items, and to develop various customized learning programs to improve the learning effect by age group.
