The Narrative Modality and its Significance of ‘the Tales of Ghosts’ in <Euwooyadam>

This thesis analyzes the whole development of narration about ‘the tales of ghosts’ in <Euwooyadam> Based on the analysis, the significant meanings of ‘the tales of ghosts’ are investigated. On chapter 2, the development and specific aspect of the narration are analyzed with five categories which are classified by the criteria of descriptive interests. Therefore, the whole development of ‘the tales of ghosts’ could be easily and effectively understood. They are categorized with the followings. 1) confirmation of the world after death 2) confirmation of ghosts 3) A living person’s settlement of the ghost’s problems 4) Ghost’s help for living persons 5) Ghosts can’t harm a high and distinguished official 6) Ghosts harm living persons On chapter 3, based on the discussion in chapter 2, the significant meanings which are meant to be passed on through the tales of ghosts are investigated. As a result pursuing for the moral life, the suggestion for the society’s problem followed by the will to overcome and the autonomous awareness about ghosts could be proved. The tales of ghosts on <Euwooyadam> are very meaningful because they present the healthy thoughts of life. In addition, the narrative literature’s meanings of ‘the tales of ghosts’ could be investigated.
