    A Study on the Structure and Performance of the Lightwave Communication Link Using an Avalanche Photodiode

    In this paper, we present the new techniques to analyze how to design a lightwave communications link. Specially, we introduce a direct detection, single mode fiber link utilizing a light emitting diode source, and either a pin photodiode or avalanche photodiode receiver, We discuss about a point to point link, even though an optical fiber communications link is usually part of a larger communications network. The optical fiber link has enormous bandwidth. Wavelength division multiplexing is one way of utilizing this bandwidth. Ideally, the purpose is to find a set of parameter values for the various subsystems in the link that will satisfy certain performance objectives. There can be a large number of parameters, each having a range of valid values. Processing power of computers is increasing at a rapid rate, and one way to take advantage of this increased power is to let the computer handle the details of searching for the optimal set of parameter values. The research for an acceptable design is based on multiple simulations, and is a trial and error search if done manually. we give a general method of the modeling approach, the key blocks and parameters of a lightwave communications link.

    A Study on Platform Types and Major Strategies in Accordance with the Form and Function - Focused on Google and KOREAPOST

    Revolution of device in the 21st century is the production of smart-phone. Apple produced new business model like Platform Business by using the smart-phone. This study reclassified the Platform Business types which corresponded to the mobile age. The classification of Platform types was carried out by a lot of scholars in the meantime. However, as the smart-phone was settled down as popular device for people all around the world, it required the classification in tune with the times as new business models were consistently produced and evolved. In this study, four types of Platform were classified based on the Open and Closed by the Platform form, and Shared and Subordinated by the function. Furthermore, this study classified them as open Extended Platform with the shared function, open One-Way Platform with the subordinated function, closed Matching Platform with the shared function, and closed Subordinated Platform with the subordinated function. In this way, this study is to suggest a major strategy to promote the each Platform Business Type. Extended Platform, it is important strategy to share and lower the barrier to entry. One-way Platform, it is important strategy to differentiation and open the platform. Matching Platform, it is important strategy to differentiation and specialization. Subordinated Platform, it is important strategy to raise the barrier to entry and sub ordination.

    Portable Haptic Interaction System for Virtual Environment

    Motion based interaction systems has led to a native user interface which can reduce the learning curve of a user to adapt usage of an application. For example, a user can enlarge or reduce the size of a virtual object by scrolling with two fingers and can move an object by dragging with finger pads or arms. Although, native user interaction allows a user to intuitive and immersively interact with a virtual object, it is not easy to increase the level of the immersion to the level which users are truly “immersive”. Haptic information can be a solution for increasing the level of the immersion. This paper presents a portable haptic interaction system, which allows a user to manipulate virtual objects with his/her touch information, consisting of a tiny haptic module and a IR camera with an IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit). The tiny haptic module is developed based on crank-shaft structure in order to maximize the haptic sense in small size. An IR camera and an Inertial measurement unit are inserted into the portable haptic interaction system so that the developed haptic module can measure a user’s motion. Our system can be used for virtual reality applications and can provide the opportunities users to access a lot of informations.

    Suitability of Empathic Reaction Interfaces on Facebook: A Study of Korean Users

    The major social networking service 'Facebook' enabled empathic expressions for communication through the 'Like' button as well as it expanded expressions between people online and offline. As of late, Facebook has launched the new interfaces for empathic reactions in order to enrich empathic communication. Empathic reactions refer to the Emoji interface which is made up of letters and images that signify emotions. In the present study, empirical investigation for usage behaviors and suitability of empathetic reactions based on Facebook's design principle was implemented and the results were analyzed to see if domestic Facebook-users are able to display enriched empathic expressions. The results showed first it to be possible to clearly distinguish emotions as particular emotions. Second, for the concern of difficulty understanding a certain emotion due to inappropriately expressed animation effects of emotion responses, the results showed the animation effect of 'Wow' reaction was an inappropriate emotion. Third, in understanding the suitability of emotion labels for images that display applicable emotions, the results showed 'Love' and 'Wow' reactions were not accepted as suitable emotion labels. These results are meaningful in a way that they provide grounds for design directions to improve towards the empathic reaction interface, which is optimized for the domestic Facebook users' emotions based on regional emotion expression attributes.

    Multiview Autostereoscopic Image Generation using Adaptive Subpixel Interlacing

    In this paper, we propose an adaptive subpixel interlacing method for optimal multiview autostereoscopic display using any lenticular lens sheets. Previous autostereoscopic display systems based on the lenticular lens needed the exclusive lenticular lens sheet which fits physical pixel size and resolution of display screen. Most of them provided the image viewing software using fixed subpixel interlacing method that can be optimized only for own system. On the other hand, our method relocates subpixels of multiview images adaptively based on the physical features of the display device and lenticular lens sheet. This makes the optimal multiview autostereoscopic display possible for any display and any lenticular lens sheets. Three test images were used for experiments. Especially we generated a synthesized test image which consists of four black images and five white images for showing effectiveness of the proposed method more clearly. We demonstrated experimentally that the audience can watch a clear autostereoscopic image provided by suitably separating left-eye image and the right-eye image from the multiview synthesized image which is produced by our method.

    An Enhanced System Security Structure for USN Environment

    Recently, USN (ubiquitous sensor network) technologies have been widely applied to various kinds of systems in society at large. In this paper, we identify security vulnerabilities in the systems using USN-based technologies and propose a security structure to securely protect the systems from malicious attacks. Most of the systems based on the USN technologies check a transmission error of the collected data by default during collecting and transmitting data in real time. However, these systems operate systematically without regard to security section. Therefore, these systems lack of the way to prevent and identify the data forgery and modulation when the data is transmitted and processed. The proposed scheme uses a public-key method to compensate for the security vulnerabilities in USN systems. By applying the secure structure to the automatic plant growth measurement system which is using one of USN-based technologies, we have checked whether the data is securely transmitted and processed or not on the system. The proposed method has been verified through safety analysis about the essential security requirements (confidentiality, authentication and integrity) of the threats (node authentication information disclosure, message content forgery and exposure) that may occur as typical type of attacks (node takeover, data forgery and eavesdropping) on USN systems.

    A Study of Development of Smart IT Curriculum by Using National Competency Standards

    Design and management of specialized curriculum in engineering education is important task for training society-demanded human resources. Engineering education accreditation and specialized engineering curriculum are necessary in engineering education. For cultivating the practical and job-oriented human resources, we design a curriculum for smart IT by using National Competency Standards(NCS) standardized by Korean government. Smart IT is an IT technology that everyone uses the smart devices by adding the convenience of mobility and IT anywhere, anytime, anyone. Smart IT is composed of smart devices such as smart phones, smart TV, smart pad, platforms like android and iOS, mobile communications by LTE, and a number of apps to operate on them. In addition, the convergence industry based on smart IT has evolved into smart healthcare, smart cars, smart home, smart grid, and smart farms. We selected smart culture app contents production subdivision and application software engineering subdivision, related to smart IT, and then chose competency units which will be included the courses. Depending on the competency units, we draw subjects and curriculum which are suitable for higher education. For the various engineering education, we design the curriculum based on NCS along with engineering education standing on the basis of accreditation, and  we hope this study to contribute cultivating the various society-demanded smart IT human resources.

    Internet of Things (Internet of Things: IoT) is developed for a wide range of products and services by integrating the concept of people and things. IoT service is different from the existing services because of various technological characteristics and it`s composed of complex technology elements. IoT has the strong possibility of new security vulnerabilities due to the configuration of specific services connected to the network security vulnerabilities of each element of the information processing technology itself. Therefore various security mechanisms, such as authentication / authorization mechanism and access control / authority control techniques, ID management techniques, management and key distribution scheme are required. In this paper, we looked at each security technologies for the IoT technology service configuration element to provide a safe and reliable IoT services that systematically present a security strategy for ensuring the safety of the IoT services environment.

    The Effect of Relationship Commitment and E-Service Quality on Customer Satisfaction and Continued Use Intention : Focusing in Online Vehicle Insurance Market

    The main reason for joining the offline auto insurance is that your acquaintances are engaged in the insurance industries. In accordance with the changing times, the younger generation with excellent access and utilize online and mobile capabilities are gradually selected online vehicle insurance. The online vehicle insurance have the advantage of being inexpensive and simple sign up process, but there is a need for research on the relationship between policy holder and acquaintances who are engaged in the insurance industries. In this paper, a variable called relationship commitment is defined and the importance of e-service quality factors is empirically researched. The variable considered for hypothesis and research model in this paper are e-service quality factors(tangibility, responsiveness, empathy, convenience), relationship commitment, customer satisfaction and continuous use intention. The ways of analysis are frequency analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, regression analysis by SPSS 21.0. In this paper, we find out that the relationship commitment is the key factor that consumers postpone or abandon switching into online vehicle insurance. In addition, it is found out that tangibility and convenience are the most important e-service factor. In order to promote the online auto insurance market in the future, we need to prepare to strengthen the relationship commitment.

    Development and Application of Converging Research Scoreboard

    Countries have had fierce competition to preempt future technologies and markets using new and converging technologies of NT, BT and IT. National policies are implemented to secure converging researches but there are no specific standards and evaluation on attainment of their goals. The Converging Research Scoreboard is developed to evaluate the capacity and potential development for converging researches which is defined as the research of collaboration among sectors, academics, and technologies for problem solving. The Converging Research Scoreboard is indicator system to calculate the Converging Research Capacity Index and proposes specific indicator system by analyzing representative science and technology-related indicators based on goal and strategy of the master plan on national converging technology development. The Converging Research Scoreboard consists of 22 specific indicators in 4 sectors, that is converging research investment, converging research workforce and education system, achievement and performance of converging researches, and supporting system and infrastructure, respectively. Using the developed scoreboard, we applied it to the national converging researches evaluation. And also collect data from the U.S. and the EU for comparison with Korea, we propose each country value of the converging research investment index. Trace and reinforce indicators for continuous development and improvement in the converging research scoreboard for Korea to take a lead in converging researches, also we can expect activation and outcome spread of converging researches.

    Network Analysis on the Herbal Combinations in Korean Medicine for Asthma

    This was a study to search and analyze the herbal combinations in prescriptions used to treat asthma in Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM). It also proposed to study the prescriptions in TKM by using various ways compared to the conventional method. Articles on the asthma were searched for from among those registered on the OASIS up to April, 2016. After the articles were reviewed, informations on single medicine and complex prescriptions for asthma were constructed. Then, the herbal combination in the prescription was analyzed by using network analysis and data mining (association analysis). ‘Chuongsangboha-tang’ was the most commonly used original prescription for asthma. The combination of ‘Armeniacae Semen – Scutellariae Radix’ was mostly used in prescriptions to treat asthma in articles. By using the network analysis and data mining, nine effective combinations including ’(Liriopis Tuber, Armeniacae Semen) - (Platycodi Radix, Scutellariae Radix)‘ were discovered. Also, ’Armeniacae Semen’, ‘Mori Cortex Radicis’, ‘Pinelliae Tuber’, ‘Scutellariae Radix’ could be used for differentiating points from other diseases to asthma. Armeniacae Semen was not the most frequent herb medicine used in the prescriptions for asthma especially, but the mostly used for herbal combination. This study could help researchers to analyze the prescriptions in various ways. Moreover, the herbal combination in asthma prescriptions could be used to search for asthma prescriptions in other databases or make a new prescription.

    A Study on Transmission of Scalable Video Coding Signals using Hybrid-Multiplexing Scheme based on OVSF Codes in VLC

    In this paper, we propose a hybrid-multiplexing scheme in order to effectively transmit scalable video coding (SVC) signals in the visible light communication systems. SVC signals are composed of one base layer (level 0) and several enhance layers (level 1~L). In the transmission systems of SVC signals, base layer’s signals must achieve the best bit error rate (BER) performance. Also, in enhance layers, the improved BER performance is required, when the level of those is reduced. Hence, those SVC layers have different weights in accordance with each layer’s level. Based on those characteristics, SVC signals can be multiplexed by allocating the orthogonal spreading codes with different lengths, and those orthogonal codes are called as orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF) codes. However, in the conventional code division multiplexing (CDM) systems, inter-code interference (ICI) is increased, when the number of multiplexing blocks is increased. So, the BER performance of SVC transmission systems is degraded. To overcome those problems, our proposed system combines CDM with time division multiplexing (TDM) based on OVSF codes. When the proposed multiplexing scheme was adopt to the SVC transmission system, the number of multiplexing blocks can be decreased and the BER performance can be improved by reducing the ICI effects. Through the simulation results, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed system.

    Effects of Self-Sacrificial Leadership and Information Technology on Innovative Behavior through Technological Innovation

    Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) make a significant contribution to economic growth in korea. The purpose of this study is to examine an effects of self-sacrificial leadership and information technology on innovative behavior through technological innovation in SMEs. Self-sacrificial leadership and information technology are the two core factors in SMEs. Hence, we examined how they might influence technological innovation of exploitation and exploration. Moreover, we investigated how exploitation and exploration in technological innovation might be related to innovative behavior. A total of 252 completed questionnaires were collected from employees in SMEs, and a financial incentive was provided to participants. To test the hypotheses our research model was analyzed with the Partial Least Square method. The results reveal that all paths are statistically significant except H1 (job assignment → technological innovation of exploration ) and H4 (allocation of reward → technological innovation of exploitation). Self-sacrificial leadership by job assignment positively influenced technological innovation of exploitation, and self-sacrificial leadership by allocation of reward positively influenced technological innovation of exploration in SMEs. In addition utilization ability and infrastructure of information technology have positive effects on technological innovation of exploitation and exploration. Technological innovation of exploitation and exploration positively influenced innovative behavior. We confirmed the importance of self-sacrificial leadership, information technology, and technological innovation in SMEs.
