    Yun Jeongki | 2010, (74) | pp.91~118 | number of Cited : 6
This article was written with purpose to study the interrelationship of '-ja(-자) and '-jamaja(-자마자) I have attempted to classify according to whether or not of replacement probability of example sentence of '-ja(-자) and '-jamaja(-자마자). It was classified as two types. The first one is a thing which it is possible to replace '-ja(-자) and '-jamaja(-자마자) each other. It could be classified as two types again. One is almost same as the meaning of two sentences. Another one is slightly different or similar in the meaning of two sentences. However, the other one is thing that it is impossible to replace '-ja(-자) and '-jamaja(-자마자). This is because it is either a wrong sentence or strange sentence. Subsequently, I studied on the combination restriction of '-ja(-자) and '-jamaja(-자마자). In the subject combination restriction, sentences with '-ja(-자) could be strange when the subject of first clause and second clause is same. In the tense combination restriction, both in '-ja(-자) and '-jamaja(-자마자), the first clause have combination restriction of tense but the second clause of '-ja(-자)' could be combined with present and past tense. '-ja(-자) could be combine only with verb. Semántic relative of '-ja(-자) and '-jamaja(-자마자) may be connected with category of '-ja(-자). Therefore, ‘-자’ could be substituted with ‘-자마자’, but just a part of ‘-자마자’ couldn't be substituted with ‘-자’.

The Explanation of Bracketing-paradox in Cognitive Grammar

    Chae Hyunsik | 2010, (74) | pp.147~169 | number of Cited : 6
The hierarchical structure of Complex words has been analyzed by the tool called "Immediate Constituent(IC)". Sometimes IC analysis of Complex words lead to asymmetry between morphological structure and meaning structure of Complex Words, which is known to us bracketing-paradox. The aim of this thesis is to make clear that bracketing-paradox does not exist from viewpoint of Cognitive Grammar, and the examples of bracketing -paradox can not be counter-evidence against symmetry between morphological structure and meaning structure of complex words. The bracketing-paradox is logical conclusion of serial processing and local representation of information, which is the basic stance of Generative morphology. Depending on serial processing, complex words are analyzed to only one structure, and depending on local representation of information, the argument structures of verbs are only represented in verb, not in other constituents of complex words. Two structures could not be compatible, and the bracketing-paradox is inevitable. However bracketing-paradox does not occur on the assumption of Cognitive Grammar, because it suppose parallel processing and distributed representation of information. Parallel processing of information permits over two analysis of complex words, and distributed representation of information permits sharing of argument structure with verbs and other constituents of complex words. Hence bracketing paradox does not occur in the theoretical system of Cognitive Grammar.

The literary light Of The Flowers That Appear In The Classical Novels

    Kim, Hyun-Hwa | 2010, (74) | pp.171~198 | number of Cited : 2
The classical novels formed the literary views to solve the problems of the real world through nature. That is, They tried to solve the troubles of those days through the thought that human beings unite with nature. They imagined the mysterious world such as fairy world, the other world, Sea king's palace in the communication with nature and further showed the imagination that human beings communicated with animals or plants. The works based on the communication between human beings and flowers had appeared among them. The subject 「Hwawangye」 of 『Samguksagi』 discusses the right relationship between sovereign and subject and desires the world that shines by the king's good intentions through flowers. It embodies the right reason and order of the human beings' world through the impersonated flower's world. Like this, the example of the communication between human beings and flowers includes the subject 「Geotaji tales」of 『Samgukyusa』. The story is as follow. the sea king makes her daughter became a spray of flowers and gives it to Goetaji. And then the woman lives with Geotaji after it is changed to her later. The flowers here is the present that the heaven gives the human being that saves the God's world that goes through the hardships and symbolizes the fact that the absolute value of the human beings' world is Justice. Flowers actively appear in the classical novels of Joseon age and is first used to bring into relief the hero/heroine in the three dimensions. Choirang of 「Leesaenggyujangjeon」and Sonangja of 「Wikyeongcheonjeon」meet the hero by the feature that they put the spray of flowers on her hair or with the hand. The glamorous and voluptuous beauty of heroines radiates and this suggests that the heroines lead their love relationship that will be developed soon. The flowers of Nanyang princess' dream of conception of 「Guwunmong」and Shimcheong dream of conception of 「Shimcheongjeon」bring into relief the fact that they have the divinity of Heaven. Gyeseomwal and Chunhwang's position present Gisaengs through the peach blossom in their houses in 「Chunhwangjeon」 and 「Guwunmong」. And the flowers of 「Jeonwuchijeon」 brings into relief the Taoism's character of Jeonwuchi. Second, flowers are used in the description of temporal and spatial scene. The fallen blossoms in Suseokgung space of 「Wunyeongjeon」suggest the tragic love of the hero and heroine who early die. The flower garden in the back yard of 「Anbingmonyurok」is changed to the dream's world of Anbing. And the pavilion standing beside a lotus pond that the lotus flowers bloom of 「Jongokjeon」is done to the space that the truth of Jongok reveals. On the other hand, the flowers have the characteristics that they are very shortly described in the temporal scene unlike the spatial one. For example, it's not the conventional expression such as 'when the period that they can take the state examination'. It consists of the expression such as 'They match their literary talent in the state examination hall.'. The expression in the three dimensions that the change of the environment is used is remarkable. Third, the promotion and match of the literary talent that appear in the inserted poem even use the image of flowers. The flowers are used by the subject of the poem that Yangsaeng and female ghosts match the literary talents in 「Manboksajeopogi」. Nangyang princess and Jeonggyeongpe do it with the real flowers in 「Guwunmong」. And the lotus blossom and chrysanthemum do it with theme that they live their lives on enjoying the morality in 「Anbingmongyurok」. Like this, the imaged flowers in the classical novels play a role in more specifically revealing the theme of the individual works. The flowers first contribute to reveal the communication and conflict of the love relationship. KimSaeng and Yangsoyu of 「Sangsadonggi」 and 「Guwunmong」 come out on wearing the royal secret inspector flowers. The flowers are cassia flowers which express the social position rise of the two men. So this prepares the base that the hero can propose to the heroine. The cassia flowers become the device that the love of the man and the woman communicate with each other. On the contrary, there is the flower that cause the conflict situation. The peony blossom and the cotton flower appear in 「Sassinamjeonggi」 and 「Kiminhyangjeon」. These flowers are the device that they lead the heroines to conflict situation to entrap them. Second, the flowers appear as underplots that directly intervene in the roamings and settlements of the characters. The eight clusters of budding flowers and flying flowers in the sky appear in the stories that Seongjin of 「Guwunmong」 roams and settle in the heavens. These flowers that smymbolize the roaming and settlement provide the aesthetic unity to the works. The characters of 「Jusaengjeon」 and 「Wikyeongcheonjeon」 roam from water to land and from land to water again. The flower grooves exist among them. The flower grooves symbolize the fate of the heroine and the water that keep flowing does the one of the hero. Therefore, they love in the grooves but they get to separate from each other as the hero leaves on taking a boat. Third, the flowers are intervened as the main body of the ceremony that they solve the pent up things. 「Anbingmongyurok」 solve the pent up things of the characters who are sacrificed by Gimyosahwa(己卯士禍) through the poetic inspiration of the flower world. The more broader meaning's ceremony that sloves the pent up things of the tired people through the process that Shimcheong comes back to life on getting into the lotus flower and overcomes the hardships on is conducted in 「Shimcheongjeon」. Like this, the classical novels further bring into relief the theme consciousness of the works by accepting the characteristics of flowers into the works. You can read the aesthetic views of the persons of those days through this literary acceptance of flowers.

    Interrelationship of Myoungwaljeong(明月亭) and Chaeseohonginyokbogu(蔡瑞虹忍辱報仇)

    민영대 | 2010, (74) | pp.199~228 | number of Cited : 2
Myoungwaljeong is a new novel that Park Yiyang published at Youil bookstore in 1912. Chaeseohonginyokbogu is a work that load to his omnibus book Seongsehangeon(醒世恒言), when is writer 54 years old, publication in being 1627) by Pung Mongryong(馮夢龍). Despite two works is a work that distance for 300 is by time, what effect that is related because there is fair relation. Such as early tales, Gajeonche(假傳體), Classic novels in our literature have known as influenced by China literature. It may be rightful result because the two countries adjoined, formed cultural area through long history. Effect relation between Yi dynasty first term Geumohsinhwa(金鰲新話) and Myoung dynasty Guwoo's Jeondeungsinhwa(剪燈新話), effect relation of Yi dynasty latter term Chaebonggambyeolgok(彩鳳感別曲) and China novel’s Wanggyoranbaeknyeonjanghan(王嬌蘭百年長恨) is true that cannot deny. As examine in this manuscript, material that heroine will should keep chastity got in work in the past. But a story description method is perfectly new form. It is difficult to speak that writer reads China novel and made story directly. Perhaps China novel is flowed in Japan and was in fashion, and if new novel considers truth called time that was written actively in Japan China novel → Japan’s new novel’s material → It is may not connected to new novel of our country. This point is a problem that can solve if Japan and our country’s new novel’s relation discovered in the future. According to result having considered about this work, literary nature does not become such work that is worth. Near China’s works have effects to our novel deeply. Until early 20 century that western civilization rush like a flood and new education spread widely. Despite traditional feudal society with lively inflow of Western civilization is collapsed age, It had emphasized very woman's faithfulness that is one of the cardinal virtues in Confucian. It was the most important on tradition society. This point can see that is caused in writer's writing behavior which wish to demonstrate peculiar emotion of our nation when take into account was age that inculcate woman's position elevation desire or equality of the sexes thought by influence of civilization thought. Myoungwaljeong has not originality. But Park Yiyang’s novel historical achievement is worth about the truth that tried to realize talk of new form differing perfectly unlike classic novel that got material in abroad work.

A Stylistic Approach to the Long Title of the Sino-Korean Poetry

    Eunkyung Shin | 2010, (74) | pp.257~281 | number of Cited : 3
When we mean "style" by the unique usage of language, we can consider long titles, which exercise the function of "seeing as," the function of memory conservation, and aesthetic function, as one of the various stylistic devices distinguishing the Sino-Korean poetry from other poetic forms. Working with "long title" which is discernible in the Sino-Korean poetry, this article intends to explore its characteristic, function and origin in terms of stylistics. Of various factors constructing a stylistic characteristic, this article considers the generic mode of the poetic form and personal inclination as the major factor deciding stylistic feature of the long title of the Sino-Korean poetry. Giving a long title to a poem is well exemplified by I Kyu-bo, I Je-hyun, An Chuk, Kim Chang-hyup, Tao Chien, and Tu Fu. It is usually said that to give secondary constituents, particularly a preface to a text originated in the Han Fu. However, with the decline of the Fu which takes on the character of thematic or didactic verse and the prevalence of lyric verse, a new trend appeared: the function of the preface was replaced by title. It is one of the backgrounds in which a title became long in length. This change in secondary constituent came to the fore in the period of Southern and Northern Dynasties and took a root in the T'ang period. From this investigation, we can proceed to a conclusion that the long title of the Sino-Korean poetry is a derivative or a variation of the Han Fu's preface.

    Shin Jiyeon | 변승구 | 2010, (74) | pp.283~316 | number of Cited : 3
    Abstract PDF
Gasa, an old form of Korean verse which had appeared in the late Gorye period, continued to be created and appreciated by the public until the period of enlightenment. However, preceding studies on the subject have neglected to identify the social classes who were participated in the creation of Gasa works. Based on the records of Gasa creators' inscribed identification, this study aims to classify the people who left their Gasa works during the enlightenment period into distinctive social classes. Out of 251 Gasa works from the enlightenment period, 157 pieces retain their authors' names. The authors are mainly comprised of intellectuals, government officials, and religious persons. Out of 58 Gasa works published in newspapers or magazines, 46 pieces are written under the authors' pen names or pseudonyms. Students constitute the major group of the authors, at times producing group works. Out of the rest 99 Gasa works, the authors of 39 pieces are still identifiable. Most of the Gasa creators are religious persons, while intellectuals and high-class married women also claim the authorship of some works. As such, the social classes of Gasa creators in the enlightenment period are to be classified into the intellectuals, the religious persons, the students, and the high-class married women. However, a large number of Gasa works from the enlightenment period do not have their authors inscribed, so that the issue of author identification solicits further studies. This study has its merit in that it has classified the social classes of the Gasa authors with reference to the objective data.

A Study on Modern Cinematic Adaptation and Circulation of <Jeonwuchi> Story - Focused on A film <Jeonwuchi>

    ChoDoHyun | 2010, (74) | pp.371~390 | number of Cited : 8
Recreation of traditional narratives found in folktales and ancient novels into movies has constituted a mainstream of modern popular culture. The life force of an old story survives time and tide to reach the modern audiences, and the advancement of cinematic technology makes it possible to visualize the fantastic elements of the ancient tale. Therefore, diverse media such as animation, theater, film, television drama, and game are enacted to transform old stories into cultural contents, aggrandizing their popular status in the 21st century modern society. The film Jeonwuchi is based on the story of Jeonwuchi a historical figure from the Jeoseon period. In particular, Tale of Jeonwuchi, the original story of the film, has been well-known among the public in the form of folklore and novel: the film version successfully recreates the world of fantastic romance in which the protagonist performs brilliant exploits. The typicality of hero story, often described as a "life of hero," has been utilized as a universal way to compensate for the sense of deprivation that the public feel in reality. Jeonwuchi is loyal to the theme of the original folktale by portraying the catharsis of desire which unfolds in the criticism of unjust society, the conflict between the good and the bad, the punishment of villains, and the final triumph of the hero in the face of adversities. In the mean time, although the film version maintains the basic elements of the original story, the former also differentiates itself from the latter, showing a unique change in the plot structure. In order to embrace changing world-views in the cinematic adaptation, Jeonwuchi rearranges the series of events, catering to modern sensibility. The character of the protagonist also incarnates the 21st century type popular hero: the hero appears as a lighthearted, active, and talented man, living in a freewheeling urban life style. Moreover, sensational images are advanced to the fullest extent, capitalizing on the unique aspects of the film medium. Jeonwuchi as a visual literature holds greater potentialities to be further developed thanks to the charming motif of hero story. The multimedia upholding modern society provide continuously diversifying forms of narrative for the folk hero. Jeonwuchi on its part carries the power of sustainable narrativation. In conclusion, Jeonwuchi has a vital force to be creatively conveyed to the modern audiences through renewed adaptation and circulation.

    Kim, Ok-Sung | 2010, (74) | pp.445~479 | number of Cited : 3
The ecological imagination of Kim Kwan-sik's poetry is based on the tradition of Lao-Chuang and taoism. Kim's eco-poetics starts on the cognition of the tragic self. The poetic subject mystifies the nature, and liberates the self from the tragic condition. He concentrates on the identification of the mystified nature and the self. The identification appears as three types of Lao-Chuang taoist ecological imagination, the imagination of taoist diet, the imagination of Lao-Chuang's peripatetic and identification, the imagination of Lao-Chuang's pastoral. The Buddhist eco-poetics of Seo Jung-joo and the Lao-Chuang taoist eco-poetics of Kim Kwan-sik are the two peaks of eco-poetics of the Post-war Korean Modern Poetry. Before the poetics of Kim, there is the poetics of Shin Seok-jung in the history of the Lao-Chuang taoist eco-poetic of Korean modern poetry. The poetics of Shin has a tendency to modernism, and it has shallow meaning in the dimension of Lao-Chuang taoist thought. But the poetics of Kim has an inclination to anti-modernism and it has a deep meaning in the dimension of Lao-Chuang taoist thought.

The Narration of Eun Hee-kyung's Novel, Boxes of Wife in Terms of Judith Butler's Feminism Discourse

    Seongki In | 2010, (74) | pp.507~528 | number of Cited : 1
This study seeks to analyze the narrative structure of Eun Hee-kyung's novel Boxes of Wife in terms of Judith Butler's feminism as postulated in the concept of 'performative gender' rather than the 'representative gender' of French feminism. In the literary work, there is a young couple who lives with each representative gender identity as man and woman. The husband as a leading gender holds the narrating role and explains what has happened to his wife. In his description, the wife appears as an object that should be abjected because of her irrationality. She is, in Butler's sense, nothing but a vacant “chora” to constitute her husband as a rational and logical subject. She is, so called, "a related and constitutive outside". The wife identifies herself through her husband with her charged "outside" as idealized in sense of French feminism in the rhetoric of metonym as positive “maternity” figure. In spite of this idealization, the wife is jailed in a mind mechanism by her husband. Hence, the possibility to throw down this dictatorial hegemony of the phallus subject doesn't come from the idealizing narrating instance as presupposed in the French feminism. Rather, it comes from the shocking effect of the tragic ending of the narrated accidents that makes the "normal" gender identification problematic.

Self-expression writing is significant skill to develop the writing skill. If ‘self’ emotion, thought, idea and opinion are not expressed truly and specifically, writing skill cannot be improved. A reason why the self-expression writing is important is deficiency-motivation can be solved. Since deficiency-motivation is solved, people become to see all objects understand what truly they are. Then self-understanding, self-realization and self-creation can be fulfilled. Through out many experiences of self-expression and self-understanding, ‘Self’ is developed to ‘Ego’. ‘Ego’ is a one way to show up ‘My-self’ to others. ‘Ego’ discovers a ‘Self-Worth’, establishes ‘Ego-identity, and then it develops to the ‘Ego-esteem’. Therefore, Self-expression writing is very significant to have its own ‘Ego-esteem’. Especially, principle of confession, confront and assimilation help to understand inner world of ‘Writing about my sorrow’ in detail. The research work of the Lee moon-gu’s novels 「Dagalra bulmangbi」, 「Baekgyeol」, 「Dances of the Lord 」 appears in the objective space is used to analyze patterns. The analytical theory of the research is space theory only of the O. F. Bollnow which will see and the Yuri M. Lotman. Bollnow were separated experience of living space and 〈Inner space〉 and 〈Outer space〉 and Lotman was divided only the text of the structural analysis of the structure 〈Inside〉 and 〈Outside〉, 〈Up〉and 〈Drop〉. 「Dagalra bulmangbi」 from the space as suppression from of space and in Paradise appeared in the duplex aspect which is a space. 「Baekgyeol」, 「Dances of the Lord」 from the space is caused by with family loss and is visible the aspect of space. Suppressed as 〈My space〉「Dagalra bulmangbi」 The ‘Jinyeoam’ can be found at. ‘Yeonmyo’ after becoming a Woman monk ‘Jinyeoam’ Indeed to achieve emancipation 〈Inside space〉 is recognized. In contrast, ‘Young’ eyes ‘Yeonmyo’ in order to achieve the liberation "section entitled"suppressed as 〈my space〉 instead of the other shore and 〈Others space〉want to get out into space. Shore as a 〈Outside space〉Jinyeoam's 〈court〉 can be considered. Because the ‘Young’ to persuade the priest, and ‘Yeonmyo’ hwansok the scene trying to shore of the world is anyone else as Let’s say, ‘Yeonmyo’ suppressed emotions and organize the meantime, "the court entitled"space goes down and stands. Loss due to 〈Falling space〉 of 「Baekgyeol」 and 「Lord of the Dances」is manifested in. Two works have in common the absence of a member of the family can be. The Subjective Forms of Characters in Structure of Narration - Revolving around Seo Jeong-In’s earlier stories

    지용신 | 2010, (74) | pp.587~611 | number of Cited : 2
Seo Jeong-In follows hisown line of literature from 1962, selecting short story「hoo-song」in『Sa-sang-ge』, to now. He has literary changes for several times and many good results. However he has been writing for a long time, so it's hard to understand his whole line of literature at one time. Especially, there is a wide difference for making technique and meaning between hisearlier works from strong existentialism and later primary works(after 1980's). Focusing changes of his stories is important to understand his own world, but this study is for finding his earlier works' distinct features before that work. As I said, his earlier stories have influence from existentialism which was big part of postwar Korean literature. Hisearlier stories are particularly influenced by existentialism. It takes an ambiguous and divided attitude, so it is not concrete. Afterward, later works are starting for the change which is lethargic and intuitive earlier subjects. He structuralize epistemological scene in his stories for making subject. This feature shows his short stories that she wrote from 1960s to 1970s, so it is the matter of concernment in this study. Particularly, I'm going to find that studying his earlier works' consistent pattern of narration is how related to making characters' relationship and meaning. There are many beginnings with encountering strangers at strange place in hisearlier stories. Those scenes are made changes by conversation and event and finding the change is not only theirs but also writer's. First of all, I'm going to examine there are two parts in his story structure of narration which are replaying outing and relating with strangers. Next, I'm going to find how the structure intervenes subject's making. He is representative of 1960's writer who has great works continually which is his own way to drawing isolated intellect and their inside. He has experimental technique and elaborated plans to face with modern subject's lonely side. There are clearly two images to encounter strangersthat one is confirming cold-hearted world and the other is securing unexpected hearted one. It gives shape to process getting subject's inside into stranger. There are two forms that healing or deepening subject's split personality. Using writer's duplicity view of the world, I'm going to trace to expose writer's view of the world from structure of narration and relation with characters.

A Study on the Jeong Wi Sin's Drama, a Korean Resident in Japan

    Choi Jung | 2010, (74) | pp.613~631 | number of Cited : 4
A playwright Jeong, Wi Sin(鄭義信) was born in 1957 in Japan. In 1993, he, who won the Gisidakunio, the most authoritative play prize in Japan with 「The Terayama(寺山)」 and won the grand prize in Asahi Stage Prize Award with a Korean-and-Japanese-made 「Yakkiniqque Dragon」, is a very well-known playwright in both Japan and Korea. Jeong, Wi Sin who played not only as a playwright but also a scenario writer and a director is regarded as a writer who clearly imprinted existence of Korean Japanese writers like Yu, Mi Ri on both Korea and Japan. His works show life of Japanese Koreans who cannot but live as an outsider in Japanese society. However, Jeong, Wi Sin who defined himself as ‘Zainichi(Korean Japanese)’ and ‘minority’ is a writer with his own unique skills different from previous generations in that he draws identity of Japanese Koreans with poetic lyricism and personal imagism instead of ethnic colors. Unlike previous generations who denounced Japanese society strongly, Jeong, Wi Sin doesn’t directly say barriers of discrimination against Japanese Koreans and paradox of Japanese society they endure. Instead, he shows that Korean Japanese society and their family is collapsing internally due to their distrust and hatred. Therefore, his works always focus on ‘dispersed seeds’ or ‘dispersed family’ caused by Diaspora’s life. Memories of Japanese Koreans are closely related to movement of space as Diaspora’s existence. Jeong, Wi Sin’s plays have spaces alienated and excluded from social development such as Korean Japanese slums, old boutiques, and beef intestines restaurants. This is closely related to identity of Japanese Koreans who exist as the social weak and marginal men. As relating back to forgetting past spaces and memories, he faces past painful and suppressed memories and through this he is establishing present identity. A Korean Japanese writer Jeong, Wi Sin’s studying of plays will perceive existence of Japanese Koreans excluded from existing play history, fulfill the emptiness, and look back on our identity.

A Study on 'Literature' and 'Education' Featured in the Early Stage of Lee, Kwang-Soo′s Rhetorical Writing

    Hyeweon Hong | 2010, (74) | pp.633~654 | number of Cited : 2
This study investigated the formation process of notions ; "literature" and "education", which were featured in rhetorical writing written by Lee Kwang-Soo in 1910's. The purpose of this study was to make a close inquiry into Lee Kwang-Soo′s enlightening structure. Also, modernity of literature-training could be investigated by analyzing the interrelation between "literature" and "education" in the formative period of modern literature. The conclusion of this study was reached as followings. First, the goal of education was setup as knowledge, ethics, physical training in rhetorical writing written by Lee Kwang-Soo in 1910's and herein power of execution was added by the medium of "feeling" factor. Second, Lee Kwang-Soo rated the school education in 1910's negatively. This was not because he doubted the school education itself, but because he would reveal several problem-components of which the school education were composed. Third, education which focused on real life was setup on the basis of Social Darwinism, but also, showed sign of emphasizing spiritual aspects such as volition and desire. Fourth, the notion, presented in the rhetorical writing where literature is main theme, "literature which was fulfilled with the feeling" was planned on the basis of the triad theory of knowing, feeling and willing but eventually became a subject of enlightenment by combining educational factor, even though autonomy of literature was advocated. Finally, we could say that Lee Kwang-Soo′s literary theory was "Jung Yuk Ron"(情育論) It is true that Lee Kwang-Soo contributed to the establishment of notion of modern literature by emphasizing the autonomy of literature. But, from the view point of literary education, he also contributed to the establishment of views of education by the medium of literature and by means of literature. Also it could help to understand a conflict between romanticism and enlightenment, which was featured in Lee Kwang-Soo′s early stage works. It was a natural phenomenon, as Lee Kwang-Soo′s literary theory, of which notions combined "education" with "feeling", came to realize in his works in 1910's.
