The Study on the Lexicalization of ‘雖然’

    CHE YUN JI | Heungsoo Park | 2020, (56) | pp.3~31 | number of Cited : 0
    Abstract PDF
In this paper, the lexicalization process of ‘雖然’ was examined in detail by age. In ancient Chinese, ‘雖然’ was most often used during the early Modern age(近古). ‘雖然’, which was used separately for each word, began to be used together from the Ancient times(上古). Although they began to be used continuously during the Ancient times(上古), ‘雖’ and ‘然’ still indicated the original meaning of each word. In the Middle ages(中古), the role of ‘雖然’ began to change. ‘然’ gradually began to lose its function as a predicate pronoun and ‘雖然’ began to be used as a conjunction that indicates a conversion relationship. Also, the forward linking element of ‘雖然’ began to be used from this period. However, there was a disagreement about the occurrence time of ‘雖然’ lexicalization among scholars. But this paper considered that lexicalization began to occur during the Tang(唐) dynasty based on examples in CCL. Afterwards, ‘雖然’' was used universally in the early Modern age(近古) and was used most frequently in Qing(清) dynasty. As a result of CCL search, it was found that ‘雖然’ was used as a conversion conjunction in most example sentences in Modern times(現代) and after lexicalization process, it became a single word. However, even in the modern Chinese corpus, there are some example sentences that ‘雖然’ was used separately for each word. So there are still some exceptional situations. Therefore it cannot be concluded that ‘雖然’ plays role as a transitional conjunction in all sentences.

    Hu Ting | Tao Jiajun | Xiao Ge-er and 1other persons | 2020, (56) | pp.55~85 | number of Cited : 0
    Abstract PDF
By reviewing and combing the related works of the character-based teaching method, this paper clarifies the origin and development of the character-based teaching method, and analyzes five groups of concepts that are easy to cause confusion and misunderstanding, i.e., (1) the theory of character as the basic unit of Chinese and the character-based teaching method; (2) the morpheme teaching method and the character-based teaching method; (3) the character-based teaching method for teaching Chinese as a second language and the character-based teaching method for teaching Chinese as mother tongue ; (4) the French character-based teaching method and the general character-based teaching method ; (5) the absolute character-based teaching method and the relative character-based teaching method. This paper holds that we should use the word “benwei”(-based/basic unit) carefully. As a scientific term, “benwei” should express only one concept, and be consistent in its connotations and extensions during discussion. Chinese character teaching is an important subject and the bottleneck of Chinese communication and promotion. We should explore an effective pedagogical system for Chinese characters on the basis of the existing character-based teaching method; Solid basic research and practical inspection are the key to the construction of the pedagogical system for character teaching; we should pay attention to the applicable scopes of various teaching methods and adopt different standard strategies under the view of a comprehensive basis.

Woman's Will in Ancient East Asian Literature

    Lee Kyung Mi | 2020, (56) | pp.89~114 | number of Cited : 0
    Abstract PDF
The purpose of this paper was to re-light the views of women who were suppressed in the patriarchal society at that timeby analyzing 'women's will' by type in ancient Korean, Chinese and Japanese literature. I divided the will of women into three types. First, in a 'personal andemotional will,' a woman wished through her will for the despair and separation of love, the oath of love and the its continuation to the future. The second is 'domestic and ethical will,' in which women seek to complete filial piety, implement enthusiasmand practice motherhood through wills. Third, as a 'social and ideological will,' a case in which a woman sought to realize justice through a will and rebuild social norms. Through this study, women ironically defended patriarchal feudalism until the last moment of life through their life-like wills, sometimes through wailing and struggle, and resisted with the whole body so that all members could hear through their weak, small voices. Afterall, the woman's will was the last self-realization of a woman, and at the same time the last cry of women who had lived their lives in inflection under the oppression of feudalism. And women's wills should not be understood just on a personal level, but onthe last challenge to the family and society, and even the social system and ideology that they had struggled with.

    Kyung Il Kim | 2020, (56) | pp.117~142 | number of Cited : 0
    Abstract PDF
The purpose of following research examines the structural characteristic and cultural aspect implied in the combined texts of ‘王 + 賓' + ’, a unique finding, from the second period of the Shang Dynasty. The analysis first examines the background of the emergence of texts ‘王 + 賓’, which frequently appear in the second period of the Shang Dynasty in the cultural context of ancestral rites. The paper analyzes the elements of character 賓. 賓 consists of three elements: ‘宀’, ‘人’, ‘止’. ‘宀’ represents a house where the ancestral rite takes place, ‘人’ represents the ghost of the ancestor, ‘止’ represents the King guiding the ghost for entrance. Also, the research examines the role of ‘賓’ as a V1 verb by analyzing the order of the words. Lastly, the research emphasizes the characteristic of the object in the ‘王 + 賓' + ’ structure and examination of another verb V2. Based on these findings, the research confirms that the text “王 + 賓 V1 + O + V2” discovered in the second period of the Shang Dynasty is composed of unique objects particularly defined as the ghost of the ancestors. Furthermore, the research confirms there are five distinct ancestral rites used as rotating V2 verbs.

A Study of Zhu Xi's "theory of Li (Li-Gi)” & “flesh and spirit” in the Bible

    YOU,JAE-SUNG | Yongtae Lee | 2020, (56) | pp.143~176 | number of Cited : 0
    Abstract PDF
In modern society, due to excessive material civilization and rapid changes in social trends, the absence of humanity is getting worse day by day, and the values and mental degradation of those who live in this age are inevitable. In such a society, proper awareness of life and the world is important to avoid the right values and mental degradation of people. Correct recognition recognizes that all the phenomena surrounding human life are organic relations, and it is necessary to overcome the contradictions of both sides through imagination and to understand that God, human beings, and nature are organic relations. For this insight, it is necessary to understand human beings and to make sound judgment based on the Christian worldview. I want to find God's image expressed in Confucian thought in the process of Confucianism formation and the acceptance of theology under the situation where the present Korea, where we live, is influenced by Confucianism in Confucian cultural soil. Christians often use the word “strength between spiritual life” or "filling the Holy Spirit”in prayer. I wanted to find out the meaning of "the strength between spirituality” and "the filling of the Holy Spirit" in the Bible, and also thought what is the equivalent in our country living on the basis of Confucianism. Therefore, it is found that there is a similarity with Zhu Xi's "theory of Li(Li-Gi)”which is representative of Chinese neo-Confucianism. As to the Spirit in the Bible, if the Spirit of God in the Old Testament is metaphysical in the transcendental sense as substantialism, then the Spirit of God in the New Testament can be seen as physical science in the theory of human nature. We humans live secular or fleshly life different from the Spirit of God. In other words, it is secular or fleshly life if we do not live according to the providence of God in our lives. In the process of living this secular or fleshly life, our values and mental decadence are inevitably accompanied. We believe that the Spirit of God always exists in our lives, and by pursuing and following it we can eliminate the human fleshly mind. By doing this, we humans can live as new born. In Zhu Xi's "theory of Li (Li-Gi)”, Li refers to Li as a transcendent being. It is a metaphysical concept that is the basis of all things creation, and is also called Taegeuk in the sense that it is the presider of all individual Li and the best Li. Zhu Xi describes the formation of all things in the real world as the action and the static work of Gi, which is called the dualism of Li Gi. It is different Li as the presider from Gi as the work. However, in the real world, Li and Gi are symbiotic relationships that can not be separated from each other. In order for this symbiotic relationship to be well done, it is indispensable to act as the presider in order to correct the wrong function of Gl. Therefore, in the theory of human nature the relationship between Li and Gi is the monism as the dualism of Li Gi. As we can see from the above, the Spirit in the Bible on the ontology is Li as the metaphysical meaning in the Zhu Xi's theory of Li (Li Gi), and the Spirit in the Bible on the theory of human nature means Li as the presenter in the real world which is like one of many Li upon same foundation in the Zhu Xi's theory of Li (Li Gi). In other words, the Spirit in ontology is not mixed as Li and Gi are not mixed, and the Spirit on the theory of human nature is not separated as Li and Gi are not separated. Therefore, in the theory of human nature the unity of body and soul in the Bible means the unity of human mind and the way of Zhu Xi. Therefore, the fact that the filling of the Holy Spirit of the Trinity God can escape from sin and make the unity of body and soul in the Bible can be regarded as achieving the unity of human mind and the way and Li as the presider works smoothly action of Gi.
