    Synthesis of Non-fluorinated Polystearyl methacrylate Water Repellent and Its Properties on Textile Fibers

    A non-fluorinated polystearyl methacrylate water repellent was synthesized by emulsion polymerization. The number and weight averaged molecular weights were obtained at around 137,277 and 237,754g/mole. The melting point was observed at 32℃. The contact angle of water droplet on fabrics treated with the water repellent was 140~145° for cotton and polyester, and 125~130° for wool and nylon. Since the critical surface tension was estimated at 20.7mN/m, even though relatively not so strong as fluorinated water repellent, it is considered to be used as a good water repellent practically.

    A Study on Dyeing of Wool Fabrics Treated with Coffee Sludge and Onion Shells Extract by Different Dyeing Method

    Coffee sludge and Onion shells are known typically as waste resources as well as simultaneously being the raw material for dye having a golden brown color. This research studies the dyeability, functionality, and colors of woolen fabric after being dyed by different dyeing method using coffee sludge and onion shells extract. The woolen fabric was refined and pre-mordanted with tannin. The dyeing process conducted was singledye, using coffee sludge and onion shells extract, sequential multi-dye, consecutively dyeing with coffee sludge and onion shells, and mixed-dye, blending coffee sludge extract and onion shells extract to dye. The dyeing was measured on the surface color, color fastness, and UV-protection ability. As a result, the expression of various hues of tan using coffee sludge and onion shells extract were shown to be possible. Additionally, singledye, sequential multi-dye, mixed-dye had generally superiority in color fastness to light, all rating 3 and color fastness to washing, rating 3 or 4, showing relatively stable color fastness to washing. The UV protection ability was shown to be better, especially appearing satisfactory in the UV-B protection, all measured to be over 90%.

    A Study on the Sulfonation of Persimmon Tannin

    To get the proper treatment conditions, sulfonation reactions of persimmon tannin with sodium sulfite and sulfuric acid were proceeded in various settings, respectively. Also, the property changes were investigated by carrying out the additional analysis: elementary analysis and instrumental analysis using FT-IR, DSC, and TGA. The degree of -SO3Na substitutions appeared 0.216 and 0.208 under the treatment time of 3 hours and 6 hours, respectively and the degree of -SO3H substitutions indicated 0.200 and 0.167 under 9 hours and 18 hours, respectively by elemental analysis. In terms of the FT-IR spectras, there was a peak based on the bonds of pyran ring and ether in relation to nontreated and sulphonated tannin at 1,102cm-1. No peak was shown in the sulfited tannin. An absorption peak which was due to the C→O of secondary -OH group became evident in nontreated and sulfited tannin at 1,092cm-1 and 1,090cm-1, respectively but the same result was not found in sulphonated tannin. The results of TGA analysis of the sulfonated persimmon tannin showed that the sulfonation of it improved thermal properties.

    Effect of Silane Coupling Agent on the Interfacial Adhesion and Mechanical Properties of Polyketone Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Composites

    The interfacial adhesion between fiber and matrix affects the physical properties of fiber reinforced composites. In this study, 3-(Methacryloyloxy)propyltrimethoxy silane (MPS) coupling agent was used to increase the interfacial adhesion between polyketone fiber and epoxy resin. The change of surface chemical composition of polyketone fiber treated with MPS was analyzed using a FTIR-ATR. The interfacial bonding between fiber and resin increased with silane coupling agent largely. Consequently, interfacial shear strength(IFSS) was enhanced with increasing concentration of MPS coupling agent and thus, the physical properties of the composites such as flexural properties and dynamic mechanical properties were changed. Flexural strength and modulus increased when the MPS concentration was higher than 0.5wt%. The dynamic storage modulus of Polyketone/ Epoxy composites treated with MPS was higher than that of the untreated one. When the MPS concentration of 3wt%, the highest storage modulus was obtained.

    A Study on the Characteristic of Contact Pressure for CPB (Cold Pad Batch) Padder Roll Controlled by Hydraulic Single Cell

    To make uniform pressure distributed over the contact surface was necessary to cold pad batch dyeing machine. In this study, to confirm characteristic of flexibility and the contact pressure distribution through experimental analysis of padder roll were controlled by hydraulic cell. When there were no load pressure only inner pressure, the value of displacement in the center of padder were greater than the end of the padder. The results of this study showed that the padder had the optimum value of inner pressure for uniform contact pressure distribution. Measuring the contact pressure in a padder system were driven by using a pre-scale film. Uniform contact pressure distribution of cell padder were a linearly with load pressure and inner pressure. When the load pressure was less than 8 tons, the inner pressure for the uniform contact pressure was 1~4 bar. The padder roll performance curves proposed in this study were available for practical production environments and various roll designs.

    Study on the Mechanical Properties of Polyketone Fiber according to Dyeing and Finishing Process

    Polyketone fiber, a newly developed high strength fiber, has a tenacity and modulus similar to the p-aramid fiber, and can be used for reinforcing mechanical rubber goods(MRG), such as tires, hoses, and technical textiles. It will be expected for replacement of super fiber such as aramids and increasing the technical textile market share. This paper surveys the mechanical properties of polyketone fiber for technical textiles. For this purpose, dyed polyketone fabric is prepared, mechanical properties of coated and uncoated polyketone fabrics such as tensile strength, elongation and tear strength were examined before and after weather resistance test(temperature 63±3℃, humidity 60%, amount of power 0.35w/m2). The differences of mechanical properties between uncoated and coated fabrics for high functional technical textiles and composite materials are estimated through this study. The UV-stability of polyketone fabric showed obvious improvement after coating. After 168h(7day) of UV exposure, the coated fabric showed less deterioration in mechanical properties with the retained tensile strength and elongation at break greater than 22 and 17% of the uncoated polyketone fabrics values, respectively.
