    Dyeing Characteristics and Mechanical Properties of High Tenacity Polyethylene(HTPE) Filament using Solvent Dyes

    High tenacity polyethylene(HTPE) fiber is one of the most important synthetic fibers which possesses outstanding properties such as low density, excellent surface hardness and scratch resistance, superior electrical insulation and low cost. In this study, we dyed high tenacity polyethylene filaments using three different solvent dyes based on log P calculations. We evaluated the dyeing characteristics of dyed high tenacity polyethylene filaments based on dyeing temperature, dyeing time and concentration of solvent dyes. We also analyzed the tensile strength and elongation properties of dyed high tenacity polyethylene filaments with various dyeing temperature and dyeing times. The optimized dyeing condition can be found at 120℃ for dyeing time of 1 hour with 4%(o.w.f.) of solvent dyes.

    Dyeing Property of Nylon Suede Fabric Dyed with Sulphur Black Dye

    Demands for nylon suede as an artificial leather are increasing due to its functionality and aesthetics. To achieve high value added nylon suede based on green technology, this study was carried out in order to obtain useful data for the nylon suede fabrics with eco-friendly dyeing process by a pad-steam method instead of a dip dyeing process using sulphur black dye to reduce the industrial waste of water. The dyeability of the nylon suede was investigated according to reducing temperatures, dye concentrations, and reducing agent’s concentrations. Throughout the results of the CIE L*a*b* and Munsell values, the optimized dyeing conditions of the nylon suede using sulphur black dye are 70℃ of dyeing temperature, 30% o.w.f. of dye concentration, and 9g/ℓ of reduction agent concentration, respectively. Furthermore washing colorfastness, light colorfastness and perspiration colorfastness were achieved in the range of 4-5 grades.

    Preparation and Evaluation of Low Viscosity Acrylic Polymer Based Pretreatment Solution for DTP Reactive Ink

    In the direct digital textile printing process, the pre-treatment process is an essential condition for products by forming a clear pattern by sticking and penetration of DTP dye without spreading on the fabric. Recently, pre-treatment agent is changing from high viscosity to low viscosity in order to reduce defects of fabric during pre-treatment process. In this study, pre-treatment agent of acrylic polymer with low viscosity(less than 50cps) was prepared according to the solid content of the polymer, pre-treated on the cotton fabric, and Direct DTP printing was performed to compare the color and sharpness. As a result, it showed high color at a viscosity of 50cps or less. When the solid content of the polyacrylic acid having a high molecular weight(A1) was 2.5wt%, when the solid content of the polyacrylic acid having a low molecular weight(A2) was 1 - 1.5wt%, the color was the best. And when the solid content of A1 and A2 was 1.5wt%, the degree of spreading was small and A1 was superior to A2 at the sharpness.

    Characteristics of Meta-aramid Fabrics Coated with Slurry of Nanoscale SiC Particles

    Most of high performance fabrics for the car racing protective clothing have been developed to have thermal resistance, flame retardant property, impact resistance and anti-frictional properties to protect the racer from the crucial accident. In this study, the meta-aramid fabric, which has inherent flame retardant, was coated with nanoparticles of SiC to enhance the impact resistance and anti-friction properties. Uniform coating of the nanoparticles onto the fabrics was obtained by using tape casting method. As the experimental parameters, size and content of the SiC nanoparticle were varied with the coating conditions of the fabric surface. The effects of the nanoparticle coating on the properties of meta-aramid fabric were examined with various instrumental analyses such as SEM, tensile strength and abrasion test.

    In this study, interesting area of development is retro-reflective thin film and then slitting to form retro-reflective material to be conbined with other fibers to form having retro-reflective characteristics, which slitting yarn can then be to provide fabrics. Glass beads are microscopic spherical size with diameters ranging from several microns to several millimeters. Applying the effects of optical property, glass beads are consumed for road safety used to make traffic signs, safety clothing and others. Glass beads retro-reflective films can be turned into slit yarns through slitting yarn process. The slit yarns can be combined into textiles using diverse methods such as weaving to provide a fabric having retro-reflective characteristics. Lightness and Luminance was increased with decreasing of interval of slit yarn in the fabric. Also, the hue is shifted greenish and bluish with interval of slit yarn.

    Preparation and Properties of Functional PET Textured Yarn Coated with Aromatic Polymer

    Many researches have been made on the processing technology of Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), which is widely used for clothing and non-clothing applications. In this study, we coated PET filaments with m-aramid resin to improve heat resistance and antimicrobial properties. In order to enhance adhesion between PET and m-aramid polymer, the adhesive polymer was coated on the PET filaments using a winding speed of 100m/min and then treated with m-aramid. Scanning electron microscopy was used to analyze the surface of the adhesive polymer and m-aramid treated PET filament. The change of initial degradation temperature according to treatment was confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis. Antimicrobial activity analysis using bacterial reduction method showed that PET filament treated with adhesive polymer and m-aramid had an increased antibacterial effect compared to untreated PET filament.

    Accelerated Life Prediction of CPB(cold-pad-batch) Padder Roll Rubber to Chemical Degradation

    In CPB(Cold-Pad-Batch) dyeing, the rubber of the padder roll is influenced by the heat, chemical and mechanical influences and thus aging of the padder roll rubber occurs. This study presents an accelerated thermal aging test of the CPB padder roll rubber with strong alkali conditions. Using Arrhenius formula of the various property values for the various aging temperatures(80°C, 90°C, 100°C) of the padder roll, the accelerated life predictions could be calculated. The threshold value of the property was set at different values. The hardness was set at the point where 5% degradation occurs based on the actual use conditions, and the tensile strength was set at the point where 50% degradation occurs based on the general life prediction standards. From the results of the different physical properties at differing temperatures, the Arrhenius plot could be obtained. Through the usage of the Arrhenius Equation, significant duration expectation could be predicted, and the chemical aging behavior of the CPB padder roll could be found at the arbitrary and actual temperatures.

    A Study on Setting Quality Level of Fastener Tape for Military Textile Products

    Fastener tapes are widely used as auxiliary materials in textile products, and military textiles products are also applied. However, in Korea, the HL3-WA class of KS K 1309 was applied to military uniforms without consideration of the operating environment. Instead of adopting the standard of initial strength for Korean military uniforms, the US military applied the value after 3 washings, and presented different properties according to the items. Also in Japan, the standard was applied differently according to products in general clothing. The purpose of this study in to examine the quality level of fastener tapes used for military materials. The changes of tensile shear strength and peel strength of military and commercial fastener tape were studied after washing. As a result, the initial strength of the current military fastener tapes was higher than commercial one, but the strength retention rate was rapidly decreased as the number of washing. So it was confirmed that the decrease in strength was relatively lower than commercial one. It is necessary to improve the durability by adjusting the adhesive strength to suit the purpose of the product, and it is necessary to consider the priority of maintaining the durability according to the initial performance and repeated use according to the use environment, respectively.

    The Dyeing Properties and Functionality of Water Lily(Nymphaea tetragona) Leaves Extract as a New Natural Dye Resource(2): Dyeing of Slik and Wool Fibers

    This study was to investigate the practicality and functionality of water lily(Nymphaea tetragona) leaves as a natural dye resource while searching for various dyeing methods to utilize them. Effect of dyeing condition including methanol ratio of dyebath, dyeing temperature and time, mordanting method, etc were investigated. Colorants were prepared by extraction in methanol and followed drying process. When composing 30% of methanol in the dyebath, better dyeuptake and uniform dyeing were resulted. Pre-mordanting method gave better results in terms of dye uptake than post-mordanting method on the wool fabrics. Fe and Ti were effective for increasing the dye uptake on the silk fabrics. Depending on mordant type and mordanting method, the dyed fabrics got various color showing green, khaki, brownish yellow, dark brown, dark gray and so on. As for color fastness, the silk fabrics dyed with water lily extract showed relatively high rating in light fastness(3~4, 4~5 rating), washing fastness(4~5, 5 rating), and rubbing fastness(4, 4~5 rating). The silk and wool fabrics dyed with water lily leaves extract showed excellent antimicrobial activity over 98% of bacterial reduction rate against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae. It was confirmed that water lily leaves can be used as a natural dye resource for dyeing wool and silk fabrics because its colorants showed excellent affinity and antimicrobial functionality as well as good colorfastness.
