    A Study on the Availability of EIA in High School

    This study aims to analyze the objectives of environmental education in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the Education for Sustainable Development(ESD) factors used EIA in ‘ecology and environment’ textbook, and finally to analyze the situation and contents level of EIA domain in textbook to explore the possibility of the positive availability of EIA domain in high school for realization of effective ESD. To analyze the objectives of environmental education in EIA and ESD factors used EIA, researchers used the text, the activity and the teaching tip in three kinds of ‘ecology and environment’ textbook by the 7th curricula as the object of analysis. Framework to analyze the objectives of environmental education in EIA is the category of environmental education objectives of UNESCO presented according to ‘Tbilisi Intergovernmental Conference on Environmental Education’ and framework to analyze ESD factors used EIA is developed on the basis of the theory about EIA and ESD factors updated in this study.In conclusion, it proves that the EIA domain through the activity is effective for realization of ESD. According to the analysis of the study, it is proposed that the follow-up studies on the improvement of EIA domain in textbook in both quality and quantity as well as ‘the teaching & learning methods and various development of teaching materials, etc.’ based on the emphasis on the activity are needed to progress steadily for realization of effective ESD in high school in the future.

    Adsorption rate of phosphate corrosion inhibitor in carbon steel pipe

    This study was performed to evaluate the adsorption rate of phosphate corrosion inhibitorand reaction rate constant in drinking water distribution systems. The optimum concentrationof corrosion inhibitor would vary depending on the quality of water, pipe materials, andcondition of metal surfaces. The current adsorption study indicated that the residual phosphateconcentration of the corrosion inhibitor decreased with the time as it adsorbed on the surface ofpipe material. As time went by, the residual phosphate concentration became constant. It meansthat the formation of the corrosion protection film on metal surfaces is completed.

    A study on the Calculation of Noise Correction Coefficient on each floor for the estimation on the roadside traffic noise around the Apartment Building

    Actually, prediction formula of road traffic noise for EIA(Environmental Impact Assessment)has been used that proposed by National Institute of Environmental Research in 1999. Theprediction formula, however, was calculated predicted noise level according to noise levelproducing on first floor, then needs to correct noise level at each floor in the case of apartmentbuilding. The investigation was carried out to calculate the correction coefficient for commonlyusing in EIA of large scaled apartment development areas. The noised level at each floor weremeasured from August 2001 to March 2002 at 31 investigation points of large scaled apartmentdevelopment area in national wide. Measured data were divided and treated with 4 types as3th floor, 5th floor, 7th floor and 10th floor and then the correction coefficients of each floorwere calculated using by correlation formula according to each floor.

    Study on the Management of Minimum Low Flow and Water Quality of Hongjechun

    In this study, field surveys were performed for 12 stations in main stream of Hongjechun and3 stations in 2 tributaries, respectively, in order to find out dried reaches of the stream, and toexamine the water quality of the stream, and to suggest methods to improve the streamconcerned into eco-stream.In the results of water quality in stream, however distinct difference for seasonal variation ofthe water quality was not found, the water quality of winter was relatively better than that ofother seasons. Annual mean concentration of BOD was 6.5mg/L in the upper reach, 11.8mg/Lin the middle reach, 15.3mg/L in the lower reach of main stream, and total mean was12.5mg/L, while the BOD concentration was 3.6mg/L in the upper reach, and was 9.6mg/L inthe low reach of Gukichun, the tributary.Based on flow examination, the level of water depth was so low and the flow can not betraveled downstream in the reach between ST-9 and ST-10 for low water season, whereas it wasobserved that the flow was traveling except the dry season even the water level was lower thanthat of adjacent stations.
