    Jeongran Roh | 2005, 39(4) | pp.5~24 | number of Cited : 4
    Abstract PDF
The various concepts of knowledge such as Knowledge Management(KM), Intellectual assets and digital knowledge asset management are currently important issues among many organizations. To the country like Korea that has professed itself for a great power of knowledge information and adopted KM and Record and Information Management(RIM) as the country's main policy, the study on the theoretical basis and best practices of KM and RIM from the perspective of Library & Information science is very urgent. However, many studies on knowledge including KM were mainly done at the business administrative field, and the consolidated study basis on knowledge even in the Library & Information Sciences was quite in deficiency, furthermore any discussion on knowledge, correlation among related systems and the possibilities of cooperation as the development of Information communication has not been done. Therefore, this study is to present the alternative plan of the consolidated management on knowledge through comparative analysis on the definition, main function and trend of KM & RIM. Especially, this study would be the theoretical basis to the public organizations that plan to introduce KM & RIM.

    Abstract PDF
Research is one of main roles of university and its importance has been emphasized gradually since a few decades ago. Yet, the objective and concrete criterion for the definition of the research university is not available in Korea. Accordingly, the role of the research university library is not established as a key system for research university. In this study the criterion for the United States research university is applied to domestic universities, thereby current status of research universities and their libraries between the United States and Korea is analyzed comparatively. Fundamental data including budget, employees and information resources for pursuing high research competitiveness necessary for the research university library are provided based on comparative analysis of 98 research university libraries in the United States and 38 domestic research university libraries. Correlation analysis data between library investment and research publication are also provided. Finally this study can be used, hopefully, as a milestone for the establishing strategy of domestic research university libraries.

    Chun, Myung-Sook | 2005, 39(4) | pp.193~205 | number of Cited : 0
    Abstract PDF
The major role of school librarians in Korea has been providing reading guidance and library user education with paper resources. However, digital users have become more ubiquitous and demand more information with the images and digital materials. Therefore, school libraries need to collect more images and digital materials. At the same time, school librarians have to equip themselves with the ability to cope with this transformation. The qualified school librarians not only should have a teaching certificate but also know about techniques to transform various library materials into digital formats. Teachers and students could use these materials for their Web site homepages and Powerpoint presentations.

The loss of book happens not only from natural disaster but from mostly humans’ improper intention to acquire without proper consideration of ethnic standards. We occasionally have difficulty in differentiating between stealing and loving books since it is often called the basic instinct to possess the books. It is however absolutely illegal to take books belong to others without permission due to one’s pure love towards books, passion to possession, or innate instinct. In this study, we define the definition of book theft and classify the cases of historically well-known book theft. It then states the book plunder cases of Nazi with the abuse of public powers, Libri, and Blumberg in terms of quantity and methods as a history of library.

The Study of the National Standard for Reference Bibliographic Description

    Young Joon Nam | Hyun Yang Cho | SoonJa Bae | 2005, 39(4) | pp.261~279 | number of Cited : 2
    Abstract PDF
This research suggests the standard reference needed for constructing the bibliographic descriptive national science citation index(KSCI). There are several types of analysis: the APA style, the MLA style, the Chicago Manual Style, and the Korean major periodical's style in Library and Information Science. The core elements are author, title, and issue. We propose the Author-Date system, and Note and Bibliography form. For citation of books only available online, the URL must be included as a part of the citation along with its record of most recent access, and retrieval.
