Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a complex chronic condition that causes a large health burden on both individuals and on the health care system. Those living with this condition have been found to use significant amounts of health care services, particularly costly acute care services. The exploration of health service use and overall self-reported health is warranted. The objectives of the study were: 1) to describe self-reported health and other health-related variables among those living with (COPD) and 2) to determine the association between self-reported health and health services used by those living with COPD. An analysis of the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) 2017-2018 was undertaken to examine the impact of COPD on self-rated health and health service use. Chi square, logistic regression, and poison regression were used. Persons living with COPD are more likely to report poorer self-rated health (OR = 4.96, CI = 4.67-5.27) and mental health (OR =2.54, CI = 2.36-2.72). Those with COPD were not more likely to report accessing health care providers beyond primary health care than those without COPD. COPD is associated with poorer self-rated health and mental health compared to those not living with COPD. Persons living with COPD were less likely to report accessing health care service from those beyond their primary care provider

Since population censuses have been an instrument implemented by governments to know their population and to implement or design public policies, the objective of this text is to discern the differences and similarities in which the governments of Canada and the United States know the native peoples living in their territories. Through an interpretative methodology of content analysis, we analyze the institutional objectives and purposes, the periodicity of each demographic exercise, the margin for ethnic specificities to be expressed in the surveys, the ways of referring to these alterities and the alternative sources of statistical information used. It is concluded that, while the Canadian census advances in the recognition of First Nations, Inuit or Inuk and Métis, the U.S. census reduces the margin for the cultural diversity existing between American Indians and Alaska Natives to be expressed.

This article about the emergence of queer writing in Québec highlights a tendency in Feminine writing in Québec between 1990 and 1995; in other words, how some Québécois feminine poets wrote about intimacy, sensuality, autoerotism, domination of the loved one, plus general sexual themes in imaged approaches. The “fin de siècle” Québécois literature was a particular, transitory moment when some emerging queer authors were active even though within this context, the term “queer” itself was not frequently used then; many scholars were still referring to the broader category “Gay and Lesbian Studies”, without considering all the specific identities such as transgender, transsexual or bisexual. Those less common gender identities have been included since in queer Studies. This timeframe is relatively thin (only six years) and the selected corpus (centered on feminine poetry in Québec) apparently limited, so we can highlight a specific trend. The highlighting of this specific approach applied to the Québécois poetry by women is what makes this article original, and a renewal in Queer Studies. This theoretical framework takes obviously from Queer Studies, Gender Studies, and the Sociology of Literature. This article concludes that even though the term “Queer” itself was uncommon, almost non-existent in Québec during the early 1990s, this era was like a transition for many Québécois feminine poets, exploring intimate themes using the codes and metaphors of poetry to express the various feminine dimensions of sexual desire without any kind of reserve or self-censorship.
