ABSTRACT

Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the purpose, method, and effectiveness of powered seating function intervention, and to share information regarding the powered seating function to occupational therapist and to suggest the usefulness of the powered seating function to improve wheelchair payment systems. Methods: This research searched for studies published in ScienceDirect and ProQuest databases from 2007 to 2016. The key words were “Power wheelchair user” OR “Handicapped with people” AND “Tilt-in-space” OR “Backrest recline” OR “Elevating legrest” OR “Seat elevator” OR “Power Seat Function(PSF)” Results: The PSF intervention was provided for the comfort and stability of Activity of Daily Living(ADL) performance of wheelchair users, and reduced the seating pressure. Depending on the purpose of the intervention, the angle of the tiling and backrest reclining were combined. The tilt and reclining seating function were effective in reducing the sitting pressure on the ischial and coccygeal areas of wheelchair users who cannot achieve postural control. Conclusions: In the future, a study from an occupational therapy perspective should be carried out on how the results obtained by applying intervention to various subject in the environment affect the social participation and quality of life of wheelchair users.
