AB - National libraries are responsible for acquiring and conserving copies of all significant publications and digital information published or produced in the country. To accomplish this, the library director should perform these duties based on professionalism in the library and information system. Nevertheless, the former directors of the National Library of Korea did not have professional knowledge nor management careers in the library and information system field. This paper suggests various ways to strengthen and ensure the professionalism of the national library director in terms of an open position system, executive agency system, political appointees, and special incorporation.
