ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to develop key elements of picture book reviews for librarians to utilize in their library practice and services. To achieve this aim, first, elements presented in literature related to picture books and reviews were studied using constant comparative analysis. Second, the content analysis was conducted on domestic and foreign book reviews of Korean picture books in 8 different book review journals on children’s and picture books. Third, survey questionaires were carried by children’s librarians regarding the elements of picture book reviews. Fourth, the elements of picture book reviews were determined by expert evaluation using Delphi survey. And finally, those were divided into essential and recommended elements. The results of this study will help librarians to select and utilize the book reviews appropriately for library services such as book selection, readers advisory, and reading instruction.
