ABSTRACT

This paper studies the competitive effects of Eland Carrefour merger in 2006 by applying the reduced-form econometric analysis which was adopted in the U.S. merger case of Staples-Office Depot in 1997. It specifies the empirical relationships between sales and prices of Eland and Carrefour stores and nearby competitive environments, estimates the effects of Eland Carrefour merger on their sales and prices by using panel data.
