AB - This article examines some of the ethical issues associated with authoritarianism in the Korean medicalcommunity from the perspective of Erich Fromm. The article first describes the authoritarianism inthe Korean medical community using Fromm’s concepts of “alientation” and “escape.” The article thenintroduces Fromm’s concept of “activity” as a means of overcoming some of the problems with authoritarianismin the Korean medical community.
