ABSTRACT

This commentary reviews a study on ethics education in Korean undergraduate programs inmedicine, dentistry, and nursing. While all three disciplines have shown quantitative growth in ethicseducation, significant challenges remain. Drawing on educational experience, the author pointsout the limited inclusion of content related to nursing practice and a shortage of qualified nursingethics educators. The commentary underscores the importance of interprofessional ethics education, noting that ethical dilemmas in healthcare often require cross-disciplinary collaboration. However, undergraduate students currently have few opportunities to engage with diverse professionalperspectives, which may contribute to conflicts in clinical practice. To strengthen ethics education forhealthcare professionals, the commentary recommends policy measures such as the development ofnational guidelines, funding for pilot projects in interprofessional education, and the incorporationof interprofessional ethics into accreditation standards. Furthermore, professional organizationsare encouraged to take a leadership role by promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration, developingintegrated curricula, and establishing faculty development programs.
