ABSTRACT

To investigate the amount of stress that Korean high school students for university entrance competitions. The data was collected from 200 students at H high school in Seoul using questionnaires including the following : IES-R(Impact of Event of Scale - Revised), CES-D (Center for Epidemiologic Studies - Depression), BAI (Beck Anxiety Inventory), PCI (Proactive Coping Inventory), SES (Self Esteem Scale). The average of psychological impact, depression, anxiety of university entrance competition was very severe. The results indicated that relationship with psychological impact, depression, anxiety, self esteem, stress coping strategy; positive relationship with self esteem and psychological impact, depression, anxiety; negative relationship with self esteem and proactive coping, relfective coping. We must acknowledge the fact that the amount of stress being received by high school students preparing for university entrance competitions is very severe. There should be active programs in high schools to alleviate this stress if we want to have brighter, healthier high school students in the future.
