ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to analyze the current status and problems of school safety education in Korea and propose various improvement issues. The legal content of school safety education was mainly concerned with the handling and compensation of accidents. School safety education had only quantitative standards without any qualitative evaluations. Middle and high schools had a higher percentage of non-homeroom teachers than elementary schools. Many middle schools set aside “school safety teachers”, but few elementary schools had them. Based on these analyses, the study suggested various improvement issues such as legal maintenance, governance establishment, expertise reinforcement, statistical DB building, and a consultative body for related agencies for the development of school safety education.
