ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of school bullying victimization on school bullying perpetration, along with the mediating effects of ADHD tendency and family relationship. The survey data were collected from a total of 737 students in fourth, fifth, and sixth grade at four elementary schools in the Seoul metropolitan area. Their responses to the questions on school bullying, ADHD tendency and family relationship were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. The major findings were as follows. School bullying victimization could make influence on school bullying perpetration, not only directly but also indirectly, through the mediating effects of ADHD symptoms and family relationship. Two paths were found statistically significant, including the path of ‘school bullying victimization → ADHD tendency → school bullying perpetration’ and the path of ‘school bullying victimization → family relationship → ADHD tendency → school bullying perpetration’. This study suggests that emotional and relational issues such as ADHD tendency and family relationship should be considered in developing programs for school bullying prevention and intervention.
