ABSTRACT

Due to the COVID-19 infection, a worldwide pandemic, people have been subjected to various psychological effects. In the field of education, a transition to online classes was made to prevent COVID-19 infection. These changes in learning and teaching methods can have far-reaching psychological effects on students. This paper aims to analyze the impact of changes in education and learning caused by COVID-19 on learner psychology from the perspective of self-determination theory. I analyzed how the three basic psychological needs that is essential for human well-being and prosperity—autonomy, competence, and relatedness—can be fulfilled or frustrated by the change to online remote classes.
