ABSTRACT

This study explores the practical potential of liberal arts education through a case study of a non-curricular program that integrates ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and human rights, based on Learning Experience Design (LXD). The program, developed in this study, categorized student competencies into four domains: civic engagement, leadership, collaboration, and social responsibility with respect for ESG and human rights. It was conducted as a problem-solving activity rooted in the LXD framework. The participants were 32 undergraduate students from a university located in Gyeonggi Province, who engaged in a one-day, team-based intensive workshop. This qualitative case study analyzed student feedback and observational data collected after the program. The findings indicate enhanced understanding and attitudinal shifts in civic responsibility, leadership, collaboration, social awareness, and respect for ESG and human rights. The program effectively fostered students’ autonomous participation, creative thinking, and internalization of core values. This study suggests the educational value of non-curricular activities within liberal arts education and proposes a practice-oriented LXD-based model that integrates ESG and human rights as a new direction for liberal education.
