ABSTRACT

This study develops and evaluates an integrated curricular and extracurricular program for first-year students in the Undeclared Major colleges drawing on the case of H University, which has implemented the Autonomous Major Selection system since 2017. A student-centered, project-based learning (PBL) career course—“Creative Convergence Major Exploration”—was designed using the ADDIE model and delivered to 175 first-year students in the College of Creativity and Convergence during the spring semester of 2025. Analysis of the course outcomes indicates that career education for students under the Autonomous Major Selection system should not be limited to short-term support for major selection, but should instead aim to lay the foundations for long-term career development through enhanced self-understanding. The study also identifies the importance of multidimensional strategies, including the integration of curricular and extracurricular activities, adoption of participatory teaching methods, and institutionalization of mentoring and counseling. These findings provide valuable insights for curriculum innovation and institutional design tailored to the specific needs of students in autonomous and flexible major selection programs.
