AB - This study analyzes the ‘Social Innovation Semester’ at K University, which formalized the ‘field‐based residential living lab’ model previously proven effective in prior research into a regular academic curriculum.
The goal is to identify the directions and limitations of academic innovation for establishing a nomad learning ecosystem. The findings reveal that K University established a institutional foundation for nomadic learning through a 15‐credit full‐time integrated curriculum, an ‘80‐day residency rule’ synchronized with the rhythm of local, and a ‘bottom‐up credit recognition system’ that respects departmental expertise. Notably, the study highlights the significance of shifting the academic administration paradigm from physical ‘space’ to life ‘context’ through governance with local governments, thereby enhancing the quality of situated learning.
However, the fragmented evaluation systems caused by rigid ‘disciplinary silos’ and the excessive workload on faculty and administrative staff were identified as key challenges for future sustainability.
