AB - This study exploratively analyzed the learning experiences of students in two liberal arts courses in which Project-Based Learning (PBL) was applied using fairy tales as a pedagogical medium. PBL classes were conducted with 99 students enrolled in Reading Fairy Tales and Reading Life and 12 Stories of Language I Did Not Know Before, offered at a four-year private university in Gangwon Province during the first semester of the 2025 academic year, and learning experiences were analyzed through an exploratory case study approach drawing on both post-class surveys and reflective journals. The findings revealed that most students reported high satisfaction with the overall design and operation of the PBL classes, and that despite initial difficulties in communication, they experienced a sense of achievement and responsibility through role distribution and collaboration. Project activities mediated by fairy tales were also positively evaluated as enhancing learners' interest and engagement. These results suggest that fairy tale–based PBL holds potential as a learner-centered teaching and learning strategy and provide preliminary grounds for its broader application in liberal arts education.
