In post-war Japan, images related to the international music festival were first created by three seminal events: The Osaka International Festival (1958-present), Gendai Ongakusai (The Modern Music Festival; 1957-1965), and The Tokyo East-West Music Encounter (1961). After reporting my findings on these three festivals, I will consider the acceptance of international music festivals in Japan. In addition, I will establish the basic features of international music festivals, from the post-war period to their peak in the 1990s. Recently in Japan, regional revitalization using music Festival has become popular. Focus on local history, economy, and natural environment rather than traditional music, sports, and art. The purpose is to utilize the art and cultural resources of the region for regional revitalization. This study is a case-study of the Sendai jozenji street jazz festival. In particular, we will analyze the process of launching a jazz festival, the state of public participation, and its effects. I would like to pay attention to the impact on the identity of the residents who participate in the jazz festival. More than eight hundred thousand spectators will attend the Sendai jozenji street jazz festival. In the evaluation of the jazz festival, it is necessary to pay attention not only to the scale but also to the impact on regional revitalization. Many residents participate in the Sendai jozenji street jazz festival as volunteers and make donations. Local students will volunteer for this jazz festival. Their participation will also lead to the future of the community. I think the voluntary participation of Sendai citizens is also effective in forming the identity of the residents. Local residents form a diverse human network in the process of participating in the Sendai jozenji street jazz festival. In this network, residents connect with each other, and an environment in which they are interested in local issues and solve them can be created.

This study aims to explore the relationship between historical perceptions of the people of both Korea and Japan, the political environment, and the framing by the government that shapes public opinion on foreign policy. This study uses the issues of comfort women and Koreans forced laborers during Japan’s colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula (1910-1945) as examples. It also uses the results of a Korea-Japan Joint Public Opinion Poll conducted by the East Asian Institute (EAI) and Genron NPO from 2013 to 2023. The results are as follows: Firstly, regardless of the government’s foreign policy, the comfort women issue remains the most significant historical matter for the Korean people, and the textbook issue for the Japanese. Changes in the political environment are driving public opinion in both countries. The framing of diplomatic issues by policymakers significantly influences the perception of their people. In Japan, the government’s framing of the issues of comfort women and forced labor was found to be accepted by public opinion. It mean that the public opinion on individual issues needs to be interpreted in the political context of each country and public opinion can be changed depending on the efforts of the governments of both countries.

This paper examines the characteristics of the narrative related to Minamotono Yoshitsune. Yoshitsune, famous as a hoganbiiki, was active as a protagonist in various literary works from the Middle Ages. His death was also described and spread in various ways depending on the historical background. There is no specific description about his death, but his death was expanded and transformed over time in a way appropriate for each era. For example, in the case of 『Kikeiki』, Yoshitsune’s final days are decorated with hara-kiri and family suicide. Hara-kiri is a typical method of suicide among medieval warriors. It depicts Yoshitsune’s honorable death by adopting shara-kiri, which was not common at the time. The key to Yoshitsune’s final days in the early modern era is that he escaped to Hokkaido and survived. He did not die in the Battle of Koromogawa, but escaped to Hokkaido and became a god respected by the Ainu. As the political significance of Hokkaido grew, the story of Yoshitsune, who was respected by the Ainu, became more widespread. As the story progressed, Yoshitsune moved to China and became Genghis Khan. It was a lie, not a fact, but Japan, which invaded Manchuria, used this fact politically. Yoshitsune’s last days were recreated in various ways depending on the circumstances of the times.
