Objectives : In this paper, lung atrophy syndrome[肺痿] in 『Huangdineijin(黃帝內經)』 and 『Jinguiyaolue(金匱要略)』 were compared, followed by examining its relation with upper wasting thirst[上消]. Also, ways in which psychological factors that contribute to lung atrophy syndrome could cause upper wasting thirst were studied. Methods : Verses from 『金匱要略․肺痿肺癰咳嗽上氣病脈證治』 and 『素問․痿論』 were analyzed based on various annotators's opinions to determine the cause and mechanism of lung atrophy syndrome and its relationship with upper wasting thirst. Results : In 『Jinguiyaolue(金匱要略)』, lung atrophy syndrome is described as the heat of the upper body entering the lungs to dry it out. The description in 『Suwen(素問)』 differs in that it accompanies atrophy symptoms, but the mechanism is the same. Lung atrophy syndrome in 『Jinguiyaolue』 could come from wasting thirst, while wasting thirst can be accompanied in deficiency caused by chronic lung atrophy syndrome. Heat in the lungs is caused by psychological factors where the person has lost its subject of possession or was unable to attain what was desired. When expanded to include heart atrophy syndrome[心痿] and lung atrophy syndrome[肝痿], the reason for upper wasting thirst could include immense sadness or excessive indulgence in pleasure due to unmet desires. Conclusions : Although diabetes and wasting thirst are not identical, application of wasting thirst pattern differentiation to diabetes treatment and management could lead to tailored treatment of each patient. Moreover, the five zhang pattern differentiation from the 『Suwen(素問)』 could increase treatment efficacy when applied to conditions caused by stress and emotional disorder, which are increasingly playing larger roles in causing wasting thirst, or diabetes.

Objectives : Pulse descriptions in Korean Medical texts are comprised of combinations of pulse terminology, where various combinations of pulse terminology are used to describe disease symptoms. For Korean Medical doctors and professionals, however, it is impossible to identify the entirety of pulse description combinations, and their understanding is mostly limited to those learned from classical texts studied individually. Methods :This research was carried out by using Access of Microsoft Office 365 in Windows 10 of Microsoft. Pulse descriptions were extracted from the text, 『Euijongsonik』. In the final stages, the automatically extracted list of pulse descriptions was refined through [excluded terminology of pulse description]. Results : The PC environment of this research was Intel Core i7-1065G7 CPU 1.30GHz, with 8GB of RAM and a Windows 10 64bit operation system. Out of 6,115 verses 6,497 descriptions were primarily extracted, and after a refinement process, the final list contained 5,507 pulse descriptions. Conclusions : Based on the assumption that classical texts are available in data form to be processed by programs, current research methodology demonstrated that it was more efficient in regards to time and man power to create a pulse description database compared to when the researcher manually created one.

Objectives : The objective of this paper is to develop a standardized patient program with a focus on diagnosis and treatment of internal damage fever in Korean Medical education. Methods : First, cases of diagnosis and treatment of internal damage fever were collected from various classical texts, then a module was developed according to pre-existing standardized patient program’s protocols based on selected cases. Careful consideration was given to developing evaluation criteria on history taking and physical examination that are necessary to accurately differentiating the 9 types. Results : Nine types of differentiation models on internal damage fever were selected, which are qi deficiency from overexertion/fatigue and famish; blood deficiency from overexertion/fatigue, famish and fullness; fire stagnation from excessive eating and cold foods; food damage; yang deficiency; yin deficiency; phlegm; stagnated blood; liver qi stagnation. For each type, evaluation criteria in regards to history taking, physical examination, communication with patient, and patient education were developed. Conclusions : When developing a standardized patient program using internal damage fever cases, it would better reflect the characteristics of Korean Medicine in clinical education of Korean Medicine if the program is based on classical texts. It would also be useful in evaluating students’ graduation competence in exams such as CPX.
