ABSTRACT

Objectives : There are a few case reports on the treatment of paralytic ileus in patients undergoing stroke by oriental medicine. This study was performed to evaluate the effect of oriental medical therapeutic methods on paralytic ileus of post stroke patient. Methods : The patient was hospitalized Dept. of Oriental Rehabilitation Medicine, College of Oriental Medicine, Dae-jeon University from 6th, July. 2005 to 15th, September. 2005, diagnosed as paralytic ileus and treated mainly with herbal medication; Bujaleejung-tang(fùzǐlǐzhōngtāng), Pyungjin-tang(píngjìntāng). After measured patient's radiological findings, we analyzed the effect of oriental medicine on paralytic ileus in patients undergoing stroke. Results & Conclusions : Symptoms of the patient such as abdominal flatus, constipation, etc were improved after above treatments. So, it seems that oriental medical treatments are helpful on post stroke patients with paralytic ileus.
