ABSTRACT

Objectives : This study was designed to examine the effects of Noni on anti-inflammatory and antifebrile effects in rats' carrageenan-induced arthritis. Methods and Materials : 1. Each of 10 rats was divided into a normal, control, and sample group for the experiment conducted to test the anti-inflammatory, and the anti-febrile activity. 2. Noni was administered orally to the sample group and normal saline was administered to the normal and the control group. 3. Arthritis was induced by injecting 0.1ml of 1% carrageenan per rat and Noni was administered after 30 minutes, 24 hours and 48 hours from injection. 4. The change of edema in carrageenan-induced arthritic rat's paw was measured after 1 hour, 5 hours, 24 hours and 48 hours from injection of carrageenan with Plethysmometer(7150,UGO BASILE, Italy) by method of Winter. 5.The temperature was measured with Telethermometer after 1 hour, 5 hours, 24 hours and 48 hours from injection of carrageenan on the rat's paw and the rectum. Results : 1.In the sample group, the rate of increase of paw edema was decreased as compared with that of control group but not significant. 2.In the sample group, CRP, LDH and SGOT were effectively controlled compared with those of the control group, and WBC was decreased and SGPT was increased compared with those of the control group but not significant. 3.In the sample group, the temperature after 1 hours on the paw and the rectum was decreased effectively compared with the control group, but the temperature after 5, 24 and 48 hours on the paw and the rectum were not decreased effectively compared with the control group. Conclusions : These results suggest that Noni have a curative effect on anti-inflammatory effect in rats with Carrageenan-induced arthritis, but we have to study deep into antifebrile effect hereafter.
