AB - Objectives :
This study is performed to investigate the efficacy difference according insertion methods of electroacupuncture on hemiplegic patients after stroke.
Methods :
Twenty eight stroke patients with hemiplegia were randomized into two groups. Thirteen patients were treated by electroacupuncture with obliquely acupunctured on the surface of fascia in affected side(sample group). The other 15 patients were treated by electroacupuncture with vertically acupunctured in the muscle which is generally used(control group). The study was performed for 4 weeks. In the both group, the frequency of stimulation was 2Hz and intensity was setting at sufficient grade to include muscle contraction. Outcome were assessed by Motor Grade, Fugl-Meyer score and Modified Barthel index.
Results :
The sample group showed significantly more improvement than the control group in Motor grade of shoulder abduction(P =0.047), Fugl-Meyer score of upper limb(P =0.043).
Conclusions :
These results support that Electroacupuncture which stimulated on the fascia is more effective than into the muscle on upper limb function recovery in poststroke hemiplegic patients.
