AB - This study is aimed at the status analysis and formulation of directions for the library and information science as part of major study area for the education and training of archivist. For this purpose, this study analyzed curricular of library and information science department of 35 four year universities all over Korea and the changes in the curricular of records management area and reviewed and analyzed the library and information science professors’s articles of records management area which were published in 7 journals for the purpose of their publication trend. It was found out that the study trend of the record management area, as part of library and information science, was influenced by the new study fields, the increase in subject opening, founding of academic societies and publication of new journal, enactment and amendment of disciplinary character of studies, etc. Based on this, the necessity for opening of new records management courses, interdisciplinary research, investigation of records management education and researches of other study fields were proposed.
