AB - 본고에서는 제4차(1981∼1988년) 및 제5차(1988∼1992년) 교육과정 고등학교 일본어교과서(이하, 각각 (H)(J)라 한다)를 집필한 일본인 저자와의 인터뷰 및 설문조사를 통해 집필을 둘러싼 언어교육사적 특징에 대해 살펴보았다. 해당 시기는 고등학교 일본어교과서가 1종으로 한국인 저자에 의해서만 제작된 제2차(1963∼1974년) 및 제3차(1974∼1981년) 교육과정에 이어 5종으로 확대되고 최초로 일본인 저자가 집필에 가담하게 되는 변화를 맞이하게 된다. (30여년이 지나) 이러한 과도기적 상황에 있었던 고등학교 일본어교과서에 대해 해당 일본인 저자와의 인터뷰 및 설문조사의 결과를 통해 일본어교육사의 흐름 속에서 다음과 같은 특징이 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
(1)교과서 집필의 과정과 관련한 문제<영역Ⅰ>를 살펴보면, 집필 시의 역할 분담, 본문의 선정, 일본어 체크, 발음 연습의 추가, 다양한 화제의 선정, 문체의 결정에 있어서 (H)는 한국인 저자가, (J)는 일본인 저자가 담당하였다.
(2)교과서 집필에 영향을 끼친 교수 내용상의 문제(교과서 내적 요인)<영역Ⅱ>를 살펴보면, 회화, 독해, 참고문헌, 내용, 구성 기준, 어휘, 삽화(사진&그림), 문형, 배경의 선정, 교과서 집필의 문제점이라는 측면에서 (H)에 비해 (J)는 기존의 독해 위주에서 벗어난 회화 중심의 교재 구성에 대한 신념을 가지고 사용빈도가 높은 어휘 선정, 기존 교재와 차별화된 문법 설명, 많은 삽화의 도입을 통해 학습자 중심의 내용으로 구성하고자 하였다.
(3)교과서 집필에 영향을 끼친 사회 환경적 문제(교과서 외적 요인)<영역Ⅲ>와 관련해서는 (H)(J) 모두 교육과정에서 제시한 교수이론과 현장교육 사이의 괴리감, 미디어 자료의 부족, 단일 교재를 통한 단순화된 읽기와 쓰기 수업이 이루어졌으며 기성세대를 중심으로 일본어 학습에 대한 사회적인 거부감이 컸음을 말하고 있다. 한편, 일본인 저자의 교육현장 경험, 교육과정의 이해, 교육현장에서 필요한 요소의 실질적 반영, 한국인 교사와의 교류, 영어 전공 및 교수 경험의 활용이라는 측면에서 (H)는 대부분 불가능했던 반면, (J)는 인식하고 경험하여 교과서에 반영·활용하고자 하였다.
이상, 일본인 저자가 최초로 참여한 제4차 교육과정에 비해 제5차 교육과정에서 고등학교 일본어교과서 집필이 발전적이고 현대적인 형태로 변화하였고 거기에는 일본인 저자의 적극적인 참여가 있었다고 할 수 있다.
