ABSTRACT

In this study, I analyses first-meeting conversations twice between a Korean Japanese learner and a Japanese native speaker. As a result, in the conversation carried out what have just arrival in Japan and staying less than 3 years in Japan, there was a big change in the expression form expressing the topic selection, and topic selection strategies. In the first conversation, a lot of topics on boyfriends were selected, and a strategy to ask questions to gather information was seen. In the second conversation, I found out topics selection by self-disclosure and a strategy to seek out commonalities with the partner, and I found that they are collaborating and developing conversation. There was also a change in the expression form of consideration for the partner, and various adjustments were made to deepen mutual understanding.
