ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to examine the practice of combat nursing in military hospitals, to survey the military nursing officers' needs for the standardization of combat nursing, and to develop the standard of combat nursing. Research design of this study utilized a descriptive research method composed of three phases : studying the actual condition of combat nursing in military hospitals, studying nursing officers' needs for the standardization of combat nursing, and developing a the standard of combat nursing. The results of this study are as follow below. 1. There was no specific guideline for the combat nursing that nursing officers can follow, and the contents of the detailed combat mission statement were different from each hospital. 2. The items scored relatively high in the need for standardization were 'the combat readiness', 'the nursing in NBC condition', 'the management of combat casualties', 'the patient treatment and management', and 'the scheduling for nursing staffs'. On the other hand, the items scored relatively low were 'the measurement of medical equipments and materials for loading', 'the rescue and support of civilians'. 3. Through a literature review and the study of the actual condition of combat nursing and nursing officers' needs for standardization, we designed the standard for combat nursing. This standard of combat nursing was consisted of 6 fields : 'combat readiness', 'wartime transition', 'unit enlargement and activation', 'wartime movement plan', 'patient care', and 'nursing in different situations'. Six fields were classified into 26 contents. The standard of combat nursing developed in this study should be verified and modified for use.
