ABSTRACT

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to search for the developmental strategies for military hospital medical service. Method : There were four steps in the research procedure. First, we reviewed the reference literature and various study results, then surveyed several military hospital patients and military medical specialists in order to determine the primary SWOT factors. Second, we devised a questionnaire to collect the opinions of clients concerning the SWOT factors for military hospital medical services. Third,we gave the survey questionnaire to 1,120 soldiers and 20 specialists in the military medical field. Fourth,we analyzed the results and established O/S, T/S, O/W, and T/W strategies. Results : We present various strategies with four dimensions; O/S strategy, T/S strategy, O/W strategy, T/W strategy. Major strong points were following: 'provision on providing free medical service', 'military-friendly atmosphere','powerful leadership' and 'reinforcement of military-specific disease research'. Major weakness points were 'lack of performance appraisal', 'lack of motivation strategy & change evaluation' and 'staff unkindness'. Major opportunity points were 'increment of military-civil agreement', 'increment of national interest to military medical service' and 'increment of military hospital evaluation program'. Major threat points were 'distrust about military medical service among the people'. Conclusion : Through this study we recognized that there were no major differences in understanding of SWOT factors of military hospital medical services. On the contrary, other branch soldiers proposed more diverse ideas.
