AB - Purpose : The purpose of this study was to understand and explain the meaning of the experience of cancer patients in military hospital. Methods : The data were collected through tape-recorded in-depth interviews from 10 participants from October 2012 to January 2013. Each interview lasted about 2 hours. Verbatim transcripts were analyzed by the analytic method of Colaizzi. Results : Fourteen theme clusters extracted from fifty themes were divided into the next following six categories ; ‘deviated from a normal life’, ‘getting accustomed to appearance changes’, ‘coexistence of challenge and anxiety’, ‘become confident overcoming hurts’, ‘enjoy peace by lowering the level of satisfaction’, ‘reorganization of daily life for better health’. Conclusion : This study would help nurses understand cancer patients’ life and develop effective nursing interventions to improve physical, psychsocial and spiritual care.
