ABSTRACT

Purpose : This study was designed to identify the nursing needs of patients and nurses, to examine the difference of nursing needs between patients and nurses in military hospital. Methods : This study followed a cross-sectional survey design. The convenience sampling was used to recruit the participants form four military hospitals. The self-reported questionnaire was then used to survey nursing needs. Finally, t-test, ANOVA was used to analyze the responses of 150 patients and 99 nurses. Results : Nurses' nursing needs scores (4.07±0.45) were higher than patients' nursing needs scores (3.92±0.61). At the postoperation state, there is different nursing needs between patients and nurses (t=-3.190, p=.002). Conclusion : This study suggested further research about nursing needs between patients and nurses in military hospital, and adequate nursing intervention at the preoperation, postoperation and discharge state. It is necessary to develop a tool to examine nursing needs reflecting the military base. The key findings of this study can be a strategy of quality improvement.
