AB - Purpose : The purpose of this study was to obtain principal data through reviewing literature and researches on Corner shop, one of the nutritional environments in Military Camp, by using NEMS-CS(Nutritional Environment Measures Survey-CS). Methods : 6 shops in Military Camps of the ROK and 5 corner shops in other places to compare with those in Military Camp were surveyed by using NEMS-S. Results : 6 shops in Military Camps of the ROK had 1 counter and were mainly run on a small scale. The food accounted for over 50% of the shelves and there were no promotion or education materials in the shops. 9 items(69%) were available in 13 food items surveyed. Only 2~4 items were healthy food among 9 items available. Frozen and instant foods were about 320 items, but most of them did not show their content of fat and sodium and other items which had content of fat written did not meet low fat standards(≤9g/230∼340g). All shops sold low calorie beverages and low sugar cereals. Whether healthy food or not, items in Military Camps of the ROK were cheaper than in other places. Conclusion : The result of this study shows that shops in Military Camps of the ROK have cheaper and unhealthier foods than other places, so soldiers have the high probability of intake of unhealthier food. The obtained data using the instrument would be expected to serve as the basis for healthy nutritional environment in the ROK Army by surveying all military camps of the ROK to take more accurate data and conducting flowing 4 strategies; (1) improve accessibility to healthy food in Military Camp's shop ; (2) regulate or reward shops in Military Camps for providing healthy foods and beverages; (3) allow fruits and vegetables like tomato in each Military Camp; (4) provide nutrition education to soldiers. After that, resurvey on nutritional environment of Military Camps of the ROK is recommended.
